The Walking Dead CCO Scott M. Gimple recently revealed that the upcoming World Beyond series is going to be very different from other TWD properties in terms of tone and perspective. The Walking Dead: World Beyond is a spin-off of the original Walking Dead series, which is based on popular comic series of the same name by Robert Kirkman. As The Walking Dead TV show approaches its final run with season 11, creators have planned many spin-offs that will continue TWD's legacy, with World Beyond scheduled to premiere on AMC on October 4, 2020.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond will reportedly feature two 10-episode seasons before concluding. The first season will be set in Nebraska ten years after the zombie apocalypse began, and will focus on four teenage protagonists who are among the first generation to come of age during the apocalypse. Scott M. Gimple and Matthew Negrete, both of whom had large roles on the original Walking Dead series, will produce World Beyond, which stars Annet Mahendru, Aliyah Royale, Nico Tortorella, and many young other actors.

Recently, Gimple offered some insight into The Walking Dead: World Beyond in an interview with Decider. He revealed that World Beyond will be very different from other shows in the TWD franchise, and offer a more innocent point of view that comes from the younger characters' experiences. Read an excerpt from his interview below:

"World Beyond, in and of itself, is tonally very different from the other shows. It has a younger point of view. But also, there’s an innocence about it — and I don’t just mean how old the characters are. It’s people who grew up in a place of safety. They went through a lot of trauma getting to that place of safety, but they are in a place of safety. That leads to an interesting dynamic. The people on Fear, they discovered the apocalypse. They were in it from the beginning. These kids, and the people in Campus Colony where they are, they went through some pretty heavy stuff at the beginning of the apocalypse. But have been living relatively first world lives. They have an awareness of what walkers are, and the dangers are, but they just don’t deal with them on a daily basis."

Based on what Gimple has explained, it seems that World Beyond will offer a brand new narrative standpoint compared to what’s been shown on other TWD properties so far. Though reviews for World Beyond haven’t been overwhelmingly positive, it will be up to the audience to decide if the outlook that World Beyond brings will be a change for better or for worse. It seems that World Beyond may be targeting younger viewers who can relate to the decisions and relationships of its characters, which will allow TWD to become more accessible to a new demographic of fans.

Having been on the air since 2010, few shows have had as much success in a ten-year run as The Walking Dead has. While the main storyline may be coming to an end, the TWD universe has shown no signs of slowing down, with four new series and a Rick Grimes movie trilogy coming up in the near future. It's going to be interesting for fans of the franchise to see how the younger generation has dealt with the apocalypse in World Beyond, but spinning off from a universally beloved TV show will be no easy feat. Hopefully, World Beyond can live up to expectations and add a different but still dangerous tale to The Walking Dead’s legacy.
