Warning! SPOILERS ahead for The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2 episode 3.

A new community called The Perimeter has been introduced in The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2 and they have a unique truce with the CRM. World Beyond has certainly lived up to its name as the spinoff series has greatly expanded the scope of the original show. Not only has it revealed more about the Civic Republic, but it's introduced new communities like Omaha, Campus Colony, and now The Perimeter.

Of course, only a few episodes in to World Beyond and two of those new communities, Omaha and Campus Colony, were destroyed by the Civic Republic Military. This raises a lot of questions about what the so-called Republic's goals are since these settlements were technically allies and, along with Portland, made up the Alliance of Three (represented by the three interlocking circles seen on all CRM uniforms). With the CRM destroying its allies and enemies alike, it appears the Civic Republic is cleaning house and disposing of communities that are either no longer useful or pose some kind of threat. However, The Perimeter remains untouched for now and that's entirely because of the truce they have with the CRM.

First introduced in The Walking Dead: Word Beyond's season 2 premiere, The Perimeter is a community founded well before the outbreak. The Perimeter was established as an artist retreat by Indira, the woman now seen running its council. The isolated setting has allowed for the settlement to hold out as long as it has, and the artists who live there work to fortify its buildings. The truce with the CRM began when the military set up in an abandoned government lab nearby, transforming it into their research facility for studying walkers. Soon, the CRM paid a visit to The Perimeter and offered them a deal: in return for clearing out walkers from the surrounding area and keeping the existence of the research facility a secret, the CRM would bring them supplies. This deal has held for years now, with The Perimeter using the ruse that their community and the research facility are on contaminated land to keep outsiders away. In World Beyond season 2, episode 3 "Exit Wounds", it's revealed The Perimeter keeps up this pretense by hanging "danger" and "toxic" signs around the area, while its residents use gas masks when traveling.

Asha on Walking Dead World Beyond season 2

The Perimeter's truce with the CRM has been working well, but World Beyond season 2 finds it threatened by the arrival of Iris and Felix. Already, The Perimeter was taking a risk of angering the CRM by harboring Will, Leo's security guard and Felix's partner who grew suspicious of the CRM and managed to escape before being killed. Now, with Iris and Felix at the gates, The Perimeter's chances of being caught hiding these persons of interest has significantly increased—especially with Iris killing a CRM soldier and bringing General Kublek to The Perimeter in search of her missing man.

With each new episode, The Perimeter continues to test their truce with the CRM. In addition to Iris, Felix, and Will, The Perimeter is now playing host to Elton and Percy, two more wayward teens the CRM wants to track down. They were discovered by Indira's children, Asha and Dev, while out looking for a runaway horse. And that's not all, because at the very end of The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2 episode 3, entitled "Exit Wounds", Huck and Hope arrive, with the latter having convinced the former they need to find her sister and friends before the CRM does. In just three episodes, The Perimeter has gone from enjoying a tenuous but valuable truce with the Civic Republic Military, to risking it all for a group of kids they hardly know. This speaks to their own suspicions of the evil CRM and suggests they've been wary of the military group for some time, but it appears that their true loyalties are going to be tested very soon.
