Here's what we know of Huck/Jennifer Mallick's The Walking Dead: World Beyond backstory thus far. When World Beyond's so-called "Endlings" began their long, hazardous trip from Campus Colony to New York, Annet Mahendru's Huck was one of the few with some zombie apocalypse survival skills. A friend to Hope and Iris Bennett and a close confidant of Felix, Huck is a trusted ally and a useful person to have around... until she isn't. Walking Dead: World Beyond season 1's finale revealed Huck was lying all along, secretly reporting back to the Civic Republic Military as a spy.

By the time Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2 begins, Huck has reclaimed her real name, Jennifer Mallick, and is resuming life among her fellow CRM soldiers. Since so much of Huck's season 1 persona and backstory was a fabricated cover story, World Beyond season 2 gives viewers their first glimpse of Jennifer's character without the mask, and a completely new background is emerging. Combining details from both seasons of Walking Dead: World Beyond, what do we know about Huck's story?

Jennifer Mallick was born to an English mother, Elizabeth Kublek, who moved to the U.S. in her capacity as a Ministry of Defence attaché. The identity of Jennifer's father (presumably where the "Mallick" name comes from) is unknown, but Elizabeth hints he was estranged from the family long before the dead began reanimating. Despite her English roots, Huck's accent confirms she was raised in America (Elizabeth suggests Albany, New York), and she joined the U.S. Marines in her late teens/early-20s, ascending to the rank of Lance Corporal. In Walking Dead: World Beyond season 1, Huck references a mission at "the Devil's Pass," which proves she served in Afghanistan. By the time of the outbreak, Lance Corporal Mallick  was back on U.S. soil aiding early efforts to contain the undead apocalypse. Her unit received orders to halt the infection by shooting innocent civilians, but Mallick turned on her comrades and prevented the slaughter.

Some time after her violent resignation from the Marines, Jennifer Mallick reunited with her mother, who may or may not have been part of the CRM already at this point. In Walking Dead: World Beyond season 1, Elizabeth implied that the watch left by her husband somehow reunited her and Jennifer. However they found each other, Lance Corporal Mallick was inducted into her mother's CRM as a soldier, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Two years before the beginning of Walking Dead: World Beyond's timeline, an incident occurred involving Dennis, Jennifer's husband (in season 2, episode 3, he has a ring on the appropriate finger). The nature of his crime is yet to be revealed, but Jennifer tried fixing Dennis' actions, which apparently resulted in people getting hurt. The transgression upset the CRM's higher-ups, and Huck was sent on a covert mission to Omaha as punishment. This is where the truth of Huck's backstory begins merging with her lies.

"Huck" was picked up by Omaha security forces floating down the Missouri River on a raft, suffering a broken arm and supposed memory loss. She was honest about her military background, but claimed she'd been living in the wild "for years" and that her mother died before the outbreak. To gain Omaha's trust, Huck broke her own arm, scarred her face (in the same manner as her Marine colleague, Drake) and spent days floating on the raft before arriving at the city and assimilating into the community as a spy. In Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2, Elizabeth alludes to "success" in Omaha, but Huck's primary mission was apparently to infiltrate the satellite settlement of Campus Colony and bring the prodigiously intelligent Hope Bennett to the CRM. During World Beyond season 2's conversation between Elizabeth and Indira, the latter reveals Huck's undercover stints in Omaha and Campus Colony lasted around 2 years.

Several big questions remain about Huck in Walking Dead: World Beyond. The most pressing is what she and Dennis did to royally irk the CRM so badly redemption was only possible via a dangerous 2-year mission into foreign territory. Other question marks still hang over where Huck's father went, how she reunited with her mother after the zombie outbreak began, and what spy work Huck carried out in Omaha, which is mysteriously redacted from the CRM's report.
