Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: World Beyond series finale.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond series finale set up new futures for its main characters. The show has concluded its two-season run, but that doesn’t mean their stories are over for good. Considering that AMC has expressed a commitment to keeping the Walking Dead franchise alive for years to come, many could appear in some of its upcoming projects, including Rick Grimes’ movies.

For most of its characters, a future after World Beyond is certainly possible. The only character from the season 1 group who didn’t make it was Huck (Annet Mahendru), who died blowing up the CR facility where they kept their poison gas. Her husband, Dennis (Maximilian Osinski) was another causality of their fight with Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) and the CRM. Due in large part to their sacrifices, the rest of the main characters were able to escape with their lives.

The show's ending paved the way for its characters to embark on new journeys. Of course, some may never appear again, but as long as the CRM remains relevant to the Walking Dead universe, there’s a chance they could re-enter the picture at some point down the line. But based on how the group has been split up by the Walking Dead: World Beyond finale, they may not all be together if and when they return. Here’s what could come next for World Beyond’s characters.

Hope, Leo, Felix, and Will

Walking Dead World Beyond Series Finale Hope

Most members of the group found a new base for the CR’s scientists to continue their work on the zombie virus cure in the Walking Dead universe. This place will serve as a home for Hope (Alexa Mansour), Leo (Joe Holt), Felix (Nico Tortorella), and Will (Jelani Alladin) going forward. Given that their focus is on research, it’s not clear what their next story could be, but they could be part of an unannounced project. World Beyond’s post-credits delivered some important developments in regards to the evolution of the zombie virus, so it’s possible that they could be involved with those plans.

Iris, Elton, and the Perimeter Group

Walking Dead World Beyond Elton Iris

Iris (Aliyah Rose) and the Perimeter group have set off on a long trek to Portland to help save it from the CRM. What happens when they get there could be a storyline for Rick’s movies, but that of course depends on where the story takes him. Alternatively, their Portland adventure could be explored in an episode of the planned anthology series, Tales of the Walking Dead. As for Elton (Nicolas Cantu), it initially looked like he was going to stay with Hope’s group, but a shot of him traveling with Iris confirmed that his association with the Perimeter group will continue after World Beyond’s ending.

Silas and Jadis

Walking Dead World Beyond Silas Jadis Hidden City CRM

One of the four Endlings found himself at the heart of the CRM in the Walking Dead: World Beyond finale. Silas (Hal Cumpston) now lives in the CRM’s Hidden City, which may be where Rick was taken. Having been accepted into the military, Silas hopes to assist in stopping the CRM from the inside. Jadis is seemingly aware of his intentions but is convinced he can be useful. Both characters feel like good fits for Rick’s movies, with Jadis potentially filling a villainous role. After all, she’s the one who’s ultimately responsible for his current predicament. If Rick rises up against the CRM, this could be Silas’ chance to use his position to take down his superiors.

Elizabeth

Another Walking Dead: World Beyond character who might be able to help Rick is Elizabeth (Julia Ormond). At the end of the finale, she was arrested by Jadis for treason and presumably incarcerated for her alleged crime. Despite her loyalty, she was abandoned and trampled upon by her own organization, which could give her plenty of reason to strike out against the CRM. If she finds an opportunity to escape, she could emerge as an unlikely ally to Rick.
