Elex and Skybound have announced an all-new game for The Walking Dead franchise on mobile. The new PvP strategy game, The Walking Dead: Survivors, is a tower defense game where players will see their favorite characters stand off against the undead on iOS and Android.
The Walking Dead is a hit TV show and comic book series set in a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies. The series focuses on a specific group of survivors as they try to find a way to live in a world filled with the undead and with unscrupulous people out for themselves. The TV show has been going for over 10 seasons and has a number of spinoff shows and games set in the same universe.
The Walking Dead: Survivors is a unique addition to mobile gaming, merging the pop culture franchise of The Walking Dead with the older genre of tower defense games. The game features fan-favorite characters from the comics and TV show, and players will be able to interact with these characters to build settlements and fight off other players, along with the ever-present hordes of zombies looking to make a meal out of the settlement. The game focuses primarily on characters from the comic and TV show; in the game they are called survivors; each has their own role, attributes and skill sets that contribute to the settlement’s overall chance of survival. There are two types of survivors, combat and development.
The combat survivors are more equipped to fight off the hordes of zombies that roam the wastelands around the settlement and fend off hostile players looking to pilfer resources. There are three types of combat attributes: melee, sharpshooters, and cavalry. They can be upgraded up to level 10, with training and promotions along the way, which will help make certain battles easier. Characters such as Michonne, Glenn, and Rick Grimes fall under this category.
Other survivors are handier and can contribute to the building of the settlement, expanding the base and constructing new buildings. Players can explore the waste around their settlement, expanding the borders of their base and fortifying their defenses from incoming dangers. There are lots of options for building a settlement unique to the player, with characters from the show like Dwight enhancing the development of the settlement.
The Walking Dead is an enduring pop culture franchise; its hordes of fans have propelled it to a role as a cornerstone of modern entertainment. With numerous spinoffs, video games, and even Magic the Gathering sets, fans have no shortage of ways to expand their horizons and enjoy the zombie franchise they love. Hopefully The Walking Dead: Survivors is worthy of the franchise's legacy.
The Walking Dead: Survivors is available for pre-registration on iOS in the US and UK, but is only available on Android in the US. The game will launch in Summer 2021.
