AMC's The Walking Dead has spawned multiple spinoff projects that are currently in various stages of development, and an exciting update on the series' status has been revealed. The Walking Dead first premiered on AMC on October 31, 2010, and quickly became one of the most-watched series on television. The Walking Dead season 11, the final season of the mainline series, premiered in August and wrapped up its 24-episode run on November 20. Created by Frank Darabont, The Walking Dead had an ensemble cast that included Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohen, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Danai Gurira.

A Tweet from Alex Zalben has revealed the upcoming slate of The Walking Dead spinoff series, outlining the timeline of releases for Fear The Walking Dead season 8, part one, The Walking Dead: Dead City, and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Fear The Walking dead season 8, part 1 episodes will start airing on May 14, The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere in June, and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will premiere in late 2023. The Walking Dead Spinoff Shows Explained

Maggie and Negan in The Walking Dead

The news surrounding the various The Walking Dead spinoff shows is a promising update for viewers of the long-running original series, which ended in November to largely positive reviews, though some choices weren't loved by The Walking Dead fans. AMC has green-lit the production of multiple spinoff series, dating back to Fear The Walking Dead, but new stories are on the way. The Walking Dead: Dead City is now slated to debut in June, with The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon expected to arrive by the end of the year and the Rick and Michonne series coming next year. All the shows are expected to share the look and feel of the original, but each of them will have its own focus.

The Walking Dead: Dead City will follow fan-favorite characters Maggie (Lauren Cohen) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in New York and could have direct connections to The Walking Dead series finale. A brief trailer for the show showed Maggie and Negan fighting for their lives in the Big Apple and coming across another group of survivors who may have a twisted view of the undead outbreak. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will pick up after The Walking Dead series finale as well, but Daryl (Norman Reedus) will be in France, potentially seeking out scientists that were mentioned as having importance to the outbreak all the way back in The Walking Dead season 1.

Fewer details are known about Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne's (Danai Gurira) next adventure, but it seems likely that much of the early plot will revolve around the two love-stricken characters searching for each other and eventually reuniting. Rick and Michonne hadn't interacted in 6 years at the end of The Walking Dead, setting the stage for an emotional reunion. More details are sure to come to light before it comes out in 2024. In the meantime, Fear The Walking Dead will return for one last season later this year. The season will be split into two parts, with the first six episodes starting on May 14. The Walking Dead may be over, but the spinoffs will try to continue delivering what fans came to expect from the original.
