Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan have reunited on the set of the Walking Dead spinoff The Walking Dead: Dead City. The Dead universe, which has been running for over a decade at this point, began with the premiere of the AMC series The Walking Dead, based on the zombie apocalypse comic book series of the same name. Although that show is about to air the final eight episodes of season 11, which will serve as its finale, the franchise has expanded to include a wide variety of spin-off series, including the still-airing Fear the Walking Dead, the now-cancelled The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and the new anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead.

One of the next series on the docket is Dead City, which will re-team iconic The Walking Dead characters Negan (Morgan) and Maggie (Cohan). Maggie is one of the longest-running surviving characters on the series, having made her first appearance in season 2, episode 2. Negan made his debut somewhat more recently, in season 6, though he made a big splash by murdering Maggie's husband Glenn. They understandably have had an animosity between them that will be tested in Dead City, where they must survive the zombie-infested island of Manhattan alongside new cast members Karina Ortiz, Zeljko Ivanek, Mahina Napoleon, Jonathan Higginbotham, and Friday Night Lights alum Gaius Charles.

On his official Instagram account, Morgan posted a shot of himself and Cohan hanging out on set in between setups. He said that "it feels like we making something special." He also said there's nobody he'd rather be working with than Cohan, teasing that fans will be hearing more from Dead City "soon I think." Check out his post below:

This photo doesn't reveal very much about what the series is going to look like. However, it may be offering an early glimpse at their costumes for the series. Both Negan and Maggie seem to be dressed in tactical costumes, perhaps preparing for an impending battle with either an army of walkers or some brand new human threat that they have encountered in the formerly bustling metropolis.

One reason that The Walking Dead has been able to survive so long is its cast's willingness to commit to the long haul. After many years on The Walking Dead, both Cohan and Morgan have been able to immediately dive right back into more zombie mayhem in Dead City with huge smiles on their faces. Hopefully this enthusiasm will help the six-episode series recapture the magic of the original series that has enthralled so many viewers for so long.
