Isle of the Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan teases that the upcoming Walking Dead spinoff is going to blow fans' minds. The series, which is set to premiere on AMC in 2023, is a spin-off of the long-running zombie apocalypse drama The Walking Dead, which is airing its season 11 part 3 finale, which will also serve as the series finale, later this year. Isle of the Dead will follow Morgan's character Negan and Lauren Cohan's Maggie. In The Walking Dead, the pair have formed a tenuous bond that is constantly on the verge of shattering because Maggie can never forget Negan's brutal murder of her husband Glenn (played by Oscar nominee Steven Yeun), for which she previously vowed revenge.

The show, which will be set in post-apocalyptic Manhattan and run for 6 episodes, is beginning its preliminary casting as it prepares to go into production. Friday Night Lights star Gaius Charles has joined the main cast as Izaak, a complicated character who is attempting to balance protecting his wife and child and processing a traumatic event from his past that continues to haunt him. Other than that new character, however, not many details have been revealed about Isle of the Dead.

After a follower sent him a fan-edited video featuring Negan and Maggie, Morgan took to Twitter to drop some hints about what can be expected from Isle of the Dead. He revealed that the scripts have been written for the entire season already and that he and Cohan have read them. He says he's "excited" to be working with her again and that the season is going to "BLOW YOUR F--KING MINDS." Check out Morgan's Tweet (including an uncensored curse word) below:

Although he didn't reveal any new information about the contents of the episodes, Morgan did reveal some clues as to how close the series is to going into production. The series was only officially greenlit in March 2022 and now, just three months later, the entire season has completed scripts that are at least full first drafts if not locked pages. The series, which is admittedly more compact than the average season of The Walking Dead, is racing through its pre-production stage, to the point that it may be one of the first of the series' many upcoming spinoffs to hit the airwaves.

With the scripts complete, Isle of the Dead will likely be making more major casting announcements any day now. While additional casting news always tends to drop during production of any series rather than before, the rest of the main cast should be shaping up shortly. After that, it will still be quite a while before any major plot details will be revealed, but given how quickly this show is coming together, they will likely appear at a surprisingly swift pace.
