The universe of The Walking Dead is about to expand as Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment launch an all new spin-off series with Clementine Book One. The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard is known for its brutal artwork as well as its adult tones and style, and while Clementine Book One will exist within the same apocalyptic world, it will be aimed at a totally different audience. While The Walking Dead fans will surely enjoy the upcoming graphic novel, Clementine Book One will be the start of a whole new initiative from Image/Skybound.

From the award-winning writer and artist Tillie Walden, who is responsible for producing critically acclaimed books including Spinning and On A Sunbeam, comes Clementine Book One. The all-new original graphic novel will mark the official launch of Skybound Comet, a new imprint aimed at Middle Grade readers between the ages of eight and twelve as well as Young Adult readers aged twelve and older. As opposed to a group of adults raging against the zombie apocalypse, the new Walking Dead book will follow a group of teenagers working together to fight off Walkers, throwing characters relatable to the core readership of the new book right into the action.

Clementine Book One follows the main character, Clementine, as she sets out onto the road looking to forge a new path for herself and put her mysterious traumatic past behind her. On her journey through the world of The Walking Dead, Clementine comes across an Amish teenager named Amos and the two set forth on their road to survival. They decide the best way to stay alive is to create their own settlement out of an old ski-resort in Vermont, where they meet a small group of teenagers who are already working to build a Walker-free home for themselves. The book promises a riveting story full of friendship, rivalry, and romance and the bleak revelation that as winter presses on in their northern settlement, the Walkers may be the least of their worries and the true threat to their collective survival may be each other.

The main character of the book, Clementine, is taking off on an all-new story, but fans of The Walking Dead may be familiar with the character. Clementine made her first appearance in the video game franchise Telltale’s The Walking Dead. While Clementine Book One’s star character may not be a main player in the original The Walking Dead comic series, it is refreshing to know that the new graphic novel set within the popular zombie-ridden world is staying true to the established lore from all media in moving the new story forward.

This new chapter of The Walking Dead saga is an exciting landmark for the series, but the book’s launch also marks the beginning of a whole new initiative for a number of books produced by Image Comics and Skybound with Skybound Comet. After the release of Clementine Book One, Skybound Comet will be releasing the original graphic novel Everyday Hero Machine Boy with Tri Vuong one of the talents working on the book, who is the same writer/artist taking the helm of the new LEGO Ninjago comic series. A number of other original graphic novels from Image Comics, all aimed at Middle Grade and Young Adult readers, are just around the corner all with The Walking Dead expanded universe book Clementine Book One taking the lead. Clementine Book One will be released on digital platforms including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play on June 22, 2022 and everywhere books are sold June 28, 2022.
