AMC has released the official synopsis for season 8 of its hit TV series, The Walking Dead. The synopsis puts an emphasis on the upcoming "All-Out War" storyline that will show the (non-zombie) residents of Alexandria, the Hilltop, and the Kingdom orchestrating a bid to defeat Negan and the Saviors, once and for all.

Back during season 6 of The Walking Dead, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and his group/family of human survivors encountered a new enemy known as the Saviors. In the season 6 finale, viewers were introduced to the fan-favorite villain and leader of the Saviors, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). In an infamous brutal act, Negan murdered both Glenn and Abraham in the season 7 primiere. The remainder of season 7 put Rick in an unfamiliar position by having the hero at Negan's mercy. The show's main characters spent the following episodes begrudgingly working for the Saviors. At the end of the season, Rick and the others found both the courage and the numbers to take a stand against Negan.

Season 8 will give fans the outcome of the conflict by diving deep into the "All-Out War" story from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman's original comic books. AMC has released the official synopsis for season 8, which you can read below:

Last season, Rick Grimes and his group of survivors were confronted with their deadliest challenge yet. With the comfort of Alexandria, they let their guard down, only to be reminded how brutal the world they live in can be.

Feeling powerless under Negan’s rules and demands, Rick advocated the group play along. But seeing that Negan couldn’t be reasoned with, Rick began rallying together other communities affected by the Saviors. And with the support of the Hilltop and Kingdom, they finally have enough fire power to contest the Saviors.

This season, Rick brings “All Out War” to Negan and his forces. The Saviors are larger, better-equipped, and ruthless — but Rick and the unified communities are fighting for the promise of a brighter future. The battle lines are drawn as they launch into a kinetic, action-packed offensive.

Up until now, survival has been the focus of Rick and our group, but it’s not enough. They have to fight to take back their freedom so that they can live. So that they can rebuild. As with any battle, there will be losses. Casualties. But with Rick leading the Alexandrian forces, Maggie leading the Hilltop, and King Ezekiel leading the Kingdom — Negan and the Saviors’ grip on this world may finally be coming to an end.

Much of the information in the above synopsis has already been teased in the San Diego Comic-Con trailer for The Walking Dead season 8 and interviews with the cast and producers, concerning the episodes on the show that lie ahead. The "All-Out War" storyline has been heavily teased as well, along with the "losses" that the group will soon suffer as an inevitable result of their actions. That said, this new synopsis also confirms Maggie's role as leader of the Hilltop in season 8, after the character led troops into battle against the Saviors back in The Walking Dead's season 7 finale.
