[The following contains spoilers for The Walking Dead season 8]

Rick, Maggie and the gang head toward a final confrontation with Negan and the Saviors in the trailer for next week's The Walking Dead season 8 finale. Ratings have continued to sink for The Walking Dead throughout season 8. Those who have stuck with the show have been treated to a steadily escalating situation over the past few episodes, as the All Out War arc heads toward what should be an epic conclusion in what star Andrew Lincoln recently described as "an unusual setting."

In last week's episode, Negan returned to the sanctuary and took charge of the situation as only Negan can. By episode's end, the man with the vampire bat had taken care of his biggest headache - namely Simon - while taking advantage of Dwight's shaky sense of loyalty to set a trap for the good guys. Eugene also played a big role in the episode. First, he taught us all the world's most disgusting mac and cheese recipe. Later a very cranky Rosita and Daryl nabbed him with the intention of bringing him back to the Hilltop, but he escaped using carefully placed vomit and some masterful hiding tactics. The question of where Eugene's own loyalties lie was left ambiguous at episode's end, as we saw him go to work on bullets he may or may not be rigging to explode in the shooters' faces.

Eugene's bullets will factor in to next week's The Walking Dead season 8 finale, as we see in the episode trailer posted by AMC. After a whole season of crazy twists and turns, All Out War is finally ready to reach a climax. See the trailer above.

The clip opens with a rare sight of the entire assembled good-guy team - even the seldom-glimpsed Jesus - marching out of The Hilltop with a purpose. As we know from last week's episode, Rick and the gang are walking right into a trap set by Negan with the unwitting help of Dwight and Gregory. But does this mean the two sides remain destined to duke it out? Rick may be having second thoughts about battling to the death after reading Carl's letter reminding him that sometimes you have to give peace a chance. Negan of course seems more intent than ever on finishing things after Michonne read him Carl's other letter over the walkie talkie.

For a little thematic refresher, the trailer shows Morgan talking to Rick, and it's clear from Morgan's dialog where he stands on the issue of giving peace a chance. "We're worse than we were, and we can't go back, so let's just finish this." The season 8 finale of course marks Morgan's final appearance on The Walking Dead, as the character will now shift over to Fear the Walking Dead. The clip also offers the usual array of tantalizing teasers. There's a glimpse of an unusually aggressive Eugene pointing a gun at Gabriel. We also get a shot of Dwight wearing a shirt emblazoned with a letter "A," which one can only assume stands for "a--hole" after Negan's memorable one-liner following his strangling of Simon.

There's also a shot of Jadis going into one of her shipping containers, brandishing a gun. Is she getting ready to take a helicopter ride? In addition to those teases, we see a final shot of the good guys on top of a hill, looking ready for action. How many of our favorite characters will meet their demise as All Out War comes to a presumed conclusion? We'll find out when The Walking Dead season 8 finale airs on AMC on Sunday, April 15th, 2018.
