This has been a tough season for the characters on The Walking Dead. While it's common for the show's fans to have to say goodbye to favorite characters, things have never been as desperate as they have been since the last minutes of season 6. The loss of two fan favorite characters in the season 7 premiere was bad enough when Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) killed both Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz). But the really difficult part was Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) feeling completely helpless. Seeing two characters who have lead and protected the group, who seemed like they could survive anything, cowed and cowering was not an easy thing to watch.

But halfway through the season, a ray of light began to shine. In the midseason finale, Daryl escaped his captivity and Rick finally decided to fight back against Negan and the Saviors. They reunited in Hilltop and made a vow to fight back - suddenly there was a ray of hope.

Now, if AMC's newly released trailer for the second half of the season is any indication, that hope will continue. Michonne (Danai Gurira) has reported on the numbers that the Survivors have, so Rick knows that his people cannot fight them alone. They need to team up with some of the others. So the trailer shows Rick trying to convince King Ezekiel (Khary Payton) that his people in The Kingdom should join in their fight.

Ezekiel might take some convincing. He's given into Negan because he wants his people to be safe, and does not seem to be much of a fighter. At least one of his people, Richard, is game for a fight. But most of the Kingdom does not even seem to know about Negan. So whether or not Ezekiel will be willing to join Rick is a tough call to make. But he does have a large group of people who can help - not to mention a tiger.

The Kingdom and Alexandria alone would not be enough, so there will probably also be effort on Rick's part to recruit Hilltop. Their leader Gregory is a coward, there's no way he would agree, but he has lost face with his people recently. Leadership might soon be shifting at Hilltop, which could prove to be a good thing for Rick's fight against Negan.
