For The Walking Dead fans, the show's seventh season has been a supremely unpleasant ride for a majority of its length so far. Following his brutal introduction in the premiere episode, Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan has only gone on to be the consistently ruthless, abusive dictator that fans know him to be in the comics, with Morgan bringing him to life with the perfect, sickening southern charm. For those of you out there who had been waiting years to see the character introduced onscreen, it seems like you can take pride in knowing that, at the very least, it looks like the show's creators aren't planning on softening this version up any time soon.
This all coalesced into the most recent episode as well, which saw Negan making his own personal visit to the citizens of Alexandria for the first time since the premiere. Predictably, he walked over all of them, including Rick and Carl in the most infuriating way, and it looks like this may not be the only unpleasant visit fans will have to suffer through either.
AMC (H/T ScreenCrush) has released small summaries for the next three episodes of the season before its midseason break, and they tease more time spent exploring and getting acquainted with The Sanctuary and its Saviors, either the return of The Kingdom or another completely new society being introduced, multiple supply runs, and yet another house call from Negan to the residents of Alexandria. Take a look at the descriptions for yourself below:
Episode 7.06 - Swear
Someone stumbles upon a brand new society, and this society is unlike anything seen before.
Episode 7.07 - Sing Me a Song
A deeper look at the Sanctuary and the world of the Saviors; members of Alexandria look for supplies.
Episode 7.08 - Hearts Still Beating
Negan’s unwelcome visit to Alexandria continues as other members scavenge for supplies; things quickly spin out of control.
Now, it's hard to know for sure what "new society" it is that the summary is referring to for "Swear," since we've been introduced already to all of the colonies expected to appear in this season. Depending on which characters it is that stumbles upon it, it's entirely possible that this could be The Kingdom, and the summary itself is just being very cryptic to avoid telling us that for now. We'll likely have a better idea of what to expect from "Swear" following "Go Getters" this Sunday as well, which could possibly give us the answer we're looking for.
Meanwhile, it doesn't seem like Negan's reign of terror is going to be impeded any time before the midseason finale. Following the small rebellions he faced during his first visit to Alexandria however, specifically from Carl, it's possible that Negan's next trip to the colony might not go as smoothly for him as he wants or will try to make it. A possible rebellion from the citizens of Alexandria, after all, could be a nice way to cap off the season's run of episodes this year, and provide an ample starting off point when we pick back up with it next year. At this point, it seems like anything is possible.
The Walking Dead continues Sunday November 20th @9pm on AMC.
