[SPOILERS for The Walking Dead season five ahead.]
Five seasons later and The Walking Dead has become a staple of San Diego Comic Con. Each year the cast of the immensely popular AMC series hits the Hall H stage and send screaming fans into a tizzy (or is that only how they react to Norman Reedus?). Their arrival at the convention is aptly timed, having only begun filming the next season a few months ahead of Comic Con, they're able to tease the next season just enough to whet the appetites of fans hungering for more Walking Dead.
Having some footage already in the can also allows for the debut of a new trailer at Comic Con and this year is no different. It's our first - and likely our best look until October draws nearer - at the next season of AMC's The Walking Dead. Give the season 6 trailer a watch above.
All hell broke loose during the closing moments of the season 5 finale when Rick executed Pete just as Morgan was arriving at Alexandria. The moment wasn't an ideal one for the two old friends to get reacquainted, and especially so considering that Morgan's new zen approach to life likely won't jive with Rick's more brutal, survival-at-all-cost worldview.
The mounting tension between Rick's group and those of Alexandria came to head in that finale, and with Morgan's arrival there appears to more splintering among the survivors. But they'll need to quickly get over squabbling amongst themselves because there's a much bigger threat outside the walls - Wolves. No, not the four-legged, fur-covered kind - the Wolves are a group of roving scavengers, the same group responsible for the trap that almost cost Daryl and Aaron their lives. They see the residents of Alexandria as easy pickins' and if it weren't for Rick and his people, they'd be right.
Judging by the trailer, Daryl will once again find himself at the mercy of the Wolves, but as he says, "I ain't who you think I am." If there's anyone who can slip away in the dead of night to warn the others - it's Daryl. However, seeing him captured once again will surely kick up more speculation that this season the fan favorite character will bite the dust. (And if that happens, expect the internet to burn to the ground with fiery fan rage.)
During the episode of The Talking Dead that followed the season 5 finale, showrunner Scott Gimple sent a note which included, "for a good while now, humans have been the bigger threat. At the start of our next season, that will change." Obviously, the Wolves are a human threat but they bring with them hordes of zombies all with a "W" ominously branded on their foreheads. Watching the trailer you can see that Alexandria is at risk of being overrun and the walls are buckling under the onslaught. As Gimple's comments indicated, season 6 will not only the season of the Wolves, but the season where the walkers return - and in larger and more dangerous numbers than we've seen before!
After watching that trailer how pumped are you for The Walking Dead to return in October? What struggles do you see ahead for Rick and the gang? Who do you think won't make it out of season 6 alive? Let us hear from you in the comments below!
The Walking Dead season 6 is slated to begin airing on AMC starting October 11th, 2015. Stay tuned to Screen Rant for more news from SDCC throughout the week!
