Life in post-civilization, post-zombie America isn't all that relaxing - at least, not in the small corner of it that we see on AMC's hit drama The Walking Dead. There are walkers camping out behind every door and tree, and without fear of any legal repercussions a significant portion of the living are willing to murder and steal their way to survival.
Rick Grimes and his ever-changing band of followers have been unlucky enough to fall foul of both the walking dead and the unscrupulous living many times over the course of The Walking Dead's past four seasons, the most recent of which concluded with most of the group trapped in a crate at the so-called "sanctuary" of Terminus. Rick has never been the kind of guy to go down without a fight, however, and it's surely only a matter of time before he finds a way to turn the tables on sadistic Terminus leader Gareth.
With the season 5 premiere of The Walking Dead now only a month away, AMC has released a new trailer for the next season in which Rick has a father-son chat with Carl about the importance of constant vigilance. The cuts are frequent and the clips are many, but the trailer also includes some other treats like the sight of Carol and Daryl back together again and a pretty impressive double kill by Michonne (with a little help from Carl).
One of the weaknesses of The Walking Dead so far is the story's lack of direction, which has ultimately led to the characters simply wandering from one safe place to the next as temporary homes like the farm and the prison are left behind in ruins. In season 5, however, it seems as though Rick and co. will be heading for Washington with scientist Dr. Eugene Porter, who claims to hold the secret to ending the zombie outbreak once and for all. Perhaps by the time season 6 rolls around, the walking dead will have been cleared out and everything will be back to normal. We're not betting on that happening, though.
The Walking Dead season 5 premieres on Sunday, October 12 @9/8c.
