AMC releases the synopsis for The Walking Dead season 11, teasing what's to come for Alexandria. Based on Robert Kirkman's graphic novels, the long-running post-apocalyptic series has shocked fans with cliffhangers and fan-favorite character deaths since its debut nearly ten years ago on AMC. Though its ratings have dwindled in the last couple of seasons, the series has remained a top program for AMC. Its popularity has led to an after-show called The Talking Dead, two spinoff series, Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, as well as its upcoming Daryl and Carol spinoff and anthology series Tales of the Walking Dead. Additionally, a trio of upcoming Walking Dead movies will center around Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).

The long-delayed Walking Dead season 10 finale aired on AMC in October after its premiere was pushed back in April due to the coronavirus pandemic. Episode 16 was intended to air a week after episode 15, but production was brought to a halt, and AMC decided to expand season 10 with six additional episodes, which began airing back in February and concluded in April with a final bonus episode, "Here's Negan," which treated fans to a Negan origin story. The 11th and final season of The Walking Dead is set to release in August 2021, and will adapt issues 175-193 of the comics as the central group encounters the network of communities known as the Commonwealth. Now AMC has released a synopsis for the final season.

AMC has shared what's next for Alexandria and the group of survivors in the synopsis for the 11th and final season(via Bloody Disgusting). Season 11, which premieres on August 22, 2021, will see the group pick up the pieces following the war with the Whisperers. With an increasing number of residents, Alexandria must find a way to feed all the people while attempting to restore the town. Read the new synopsis for season 11 below:

Previously on The Walking Dead, our survivors confronted past demons and combated new threats, with friendships and relationships suffering from the mounting collateral damage that is the apocalypse. Alexandria is severely compromised, left a former shell of the home it once was from the carnage and devastation left behind by the Whisperers.

Now all who live in Alexandria struggle to refortify it and feed its increasing number of residents, which include the survivors from the fall of the Kingdom and the burning of Hilltop; along with Maggie and her new group, the Wardens. Alexandria has more people than it can manage to feed and protect. Their situation is dire as tensions heat up over past events and self-preservation rises to the surface within the ravaged walls.

They must secure more food while they attempt to restore Alexandria before it collapses like countless other communities they have come across throughout the years. But where and how? More haggard and hungrier than ever before, they must dig deeper to find the effort and strength to safeguard the lives of their children, even if it means losing their own.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to those at Alexandria, Eugene, Ezekiel, Yumiko, and Princess are still being held captive by mysterious soldiers who are members of a larger and unforthcoming group.

The series will end with an expanded two-year 11th season that consists of 24 episodes, ending sometime in 2022. Season 11 began filming in February, and recent set photos have shown first looks at some new characters. To tide fans over, AMC also recently announced a new batch of special episodes coming in July that will each center around Daryl (Norman Reedus), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Carol (Melissa McBride), and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). The Walking Dead: Origins will be the first of AMC's "11 Weeks of Reveals until Season 11."

It will be interesting to see the survivors face such a militant and structured new group following the Whisperers' more animalistic style. In the comics, the Commonwealth is large and highly equipped with a strong community of survivors, which could mean good things for the group or pose a threat. Walking Dead fans only have to wait a few more months to see what lies ahead for the survivors in the show's remaining episodes.
