AMC's The Walking Dead season 11 part 2 returns in February 2022, and here's everything we know about its story, ending, and more. It's amazing to think that The Walking Dead's zombie-infested original series was on the air throughout the entire 2010s. At its height, millions upon millions of people tuned in every Sunday to see who–if anyone–was going to die. As The Walking Dead season 11 marks the close of the original series' run, tuning in for the character resolutions in parts 2 and 3 of the final installment is even more important.

With season 11, AMC's The Walking Dead is both expanding and wrapping up at the same time. Timing it around the 10th anniversary of the series' debut, AMC launched its third Walking Dead show, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, in fall 2020 and has plans to make two more in the near future; one will be a spinoff focusing on Carol and Daryl, and another will be an anthology series. Furthermore, the planned Rick Grimes movie trilogy is still in the works, though it's unclear when the first of those movies will release. With The Walking Dead season 11 parts 2 and 3 still yet to come, viewers are eagerly anticipating crossovers, character deaths, and callbacks to earlier seasons as the original series draws to a close.

Even though there's so much to look forward to with The Walking Dead franchise, the main series will be winding down in 2022, beginning with the premiere of The Walking Dead season 11 part 2. The Walking Dead season 11 part 1, which concluded in October 2021, set up plenty of drama and twists for part 2, including an attack on the Reapers' compound, the death of Maggie's rival Pope, Daryl and Leah splitting, and a cliffhanger ending hinting at the deaths of major characters. Here's everything we know about The Walking Dead season 11 part 2.

The Walking Dead Season 11 Part 2 Release Date

Daryl and Lance Hornsby in The Walking Dead Season 11

Part 1 of The Walking Dead season 11 premiered on August 22, 2021, wrapping up its first batch of 8 episodes on October 10. After an excruciating four-month wait for The Walking Dead to return, season 11 part 2 will turn to AMC on February 20, 2022. Since season 11, which needs to bring a definitive end to The Walking Dead, is airing in three batches of episodes, part 2 will take the series into episode 16, whereafter the third and final block will premiere before the end of 2022.

With seven more episodes after The Walking Dead season 11 episode 9, part 2's finale is set to air on April 10. If The Walking Dead season 11's third batch follows part 2's pattern, it can be assumed that part 3 of the final season will return to AMC in August 2022. Given part 2 of Fear the Walking Dead season 7 returns in April 2022 and The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2 concluded in December 2021, the timing makes sense to avoid too much overlap with the two spinoff shows.

The Walking Dead Season 11 Part 2 Story

Maggie and Judith in The Walking Dead Season 11 Part 1 Finale

After setting up a resolution for Maggie and Negan's The Walking Dead conflict, two major villain groups still remain for season 11 part 2: the Reapers and Commonwealth. The Walking Dead season 11 part 1's ending saw an attack on the Reapers' compound that led to Leah taking over control of the Reapers, while  the hwacha weapon was fired at Maggie, Negan, Gabriel, and Daryl. The episode ended on a cliffhanger regarding whether or not they survived. Since the promo for The Walking Dead season 11 part 2 showed the four characters returning to Alexandria with the food they needed, there's no need to worry about them dying quite yet.

The Walking Dead season 11 part 2 promo also featured Daryl and Gabriel around a campfire hinted to be at the Reapers' compound, thus suggesting the Reapears and Alexandrians will resolve their differences. Since the Commonwealth discovered where Alexandria is and are on their way down by the end of part 1, it stands to reason that part 2 will finally integrate the Commonwealth's massive community as a mutual foe for the Alexandrians and Reapers, or set up a climactic confrontation for The Walking Dead season 11 part 3. It's also known in the promo that Judith and Gracie survive the East Coast's harrowing storm and a zombie rampage, as Judith is seen greeting Daryl after he returns to Alexandria.

Why The Walking Dead Season 11 Is The End

Robert Kirkman's comic series has ended, so there's little story left for The Walking Dead TV show to use after the Commonwealth storyline ends. Because of that, and because AMC has other plans for the franchise's growing future, The Walking Dead season 11 will be the end. But it won't be a quick end, seeing as The Walking Dead season 11 is 24 episodes long, releasing in three waves over the course of the next year. With The Walking Dead season 11 part 2 set to conclude in April 2022, it seems that the main series will come to a complete end in fall 2022.

While The Walking Dead season 11 parts 2 and 3 mean the end of the original show, Fear the Walking Dead is still carrying on the legacy, with several spinoff shows and Andrew Lincoln-led Rick Grimes movies in the works. So while the main show is ending, The Walking Dead isn't going anywhere just yet.
