The Walking Dead season 11 part 3 trailer hides a connection between Daryl’s spinoff series and the plans for the main show’s final eight episodes. Following the conclusion of The Walking Dead season 11, the franchise is expected to continue the stories of several of the show’s key characters in other forms. One such character is Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon, who is set to get his own spinoff in 2023.
How Daryl will get his own adventure independent of the other characters remains to be seen, but it’s widely assumed that it’ll be set up by The Walking Dead season 11 part 3’s ending. Though this scenario hasn’t been confirmed yet, it makes sense that an event in one of the show’s last episodes will lay the groundwork for Daryl to leave Alexandria and begin his own journey in The Walking Dead universe. As for what that will be, details on the character’s future reveal Daryl is headed overseas in his untitled spinoff series. Walking Dead Chief Creative Officer Scott M. Gimple previously stated that Daryl’s new show is set in France, where the character will be presented as a “fish out of water”.
The Walking Dead season 11 part 3 provides a hint at how the show’s next story can ultimately lead into a trip to France. In the trailer, Aaron mentions hearing stories about zombies opening doors and climbing walls. This comment was followed by footage of zombies behaving smarter and faster than what viewers have been accustomed to over the years. It’s unlikely a coincidence that this kind of zombie also has a presence in France (as proven by Walking Dead: World Beyond’s ending), the setting of Daryl’s new show. From the looks of things, Daryl’s next adventure has a good chance of relating directly to the return of Walking Dead season 1’s fast zombies.
How Will The Walking Dead Set Up Daryl’s Show?
Presently, Daryl – or any other Walking Dead character, for that matter – doesn’t have a good reason to cross the ocean, much less leave the state. Further complicating matters is the issue of how Daryl will get there. Naturally, a trip overseas in the zombie apocalypse is something that he can’t do without help from an outside force. It’s possible that the CRM or the Commonwealth will find a way to get him over there. As for what could be gained from such a mission, it may be that the point is to discover the source of the new zombies.
It seems that the franchise has been gearing up for a story with these faster and smarter zombies for quite a while. When World Beyond showed off those zombies in the show’s France scene, there was a sense that the series was building the foundation for Rick’s movies. Instead, though, all indications now point toward both World Beyond and The Walking Dead season 11 part 3 being instrumental to the setup for Daryl Dixon’s solo series.
