The Walking Dead season 11B trailer arrives teasing the Commonwealth as the next major villain in the final chapter of the long-running series. AMC's hit zombie drama is based on Robert Kirkman's graphic novels of the same name set in a world ravaged by a zombie apocalypse as the remainders of humanity in the Southern United States try to survive the hordes of undead and each other. The Walking Dead first kicked off on the cable network in 2010 and has drawn in consistently positive reviews and solid ratings throughout its run.

The Walking Dead season 11B picks up as many of the protagonists are now coming under attack from the Reapers while those in Alexandria continue to fight back against the elements. Meanwhile, the seemingly idyllic community of Commonwealth begins to have its darker secrets come to light, building up to a major conclusion. The final season of The Walking Dead is once again led by showrunner Angela Kang, marking her third season in the leadership chair after taking over from Scott Gimple following his promotion to chief content officer of the franchise.

With just a month remaining until the show's return, AMC has unveiled The Walking Dead season 11B trailer. The video finally makes it clear the Commonwealth will serve as the next major villain of the series as they put the squeeze on the various groups of survivors, including Maggie and Daryl's. For those familiar with Kirkman's source material, The Walking Dead season 11B trailer pointing towards the Commonwealth as the next major villain may come as a surprise. While the Commonwealth were certainly behind a few major bad events in the comics, including the death of original protagonist Rick Grimes, they largely acted as a neutral entity in their actions, diving people into various classes and living under the authoritarian rule of Pamela Milton. The first set of episodes for season 11 seemed to be setting up a darker nature to the Commonwealth, though the new trailer establishing them as a proper major villain marks an interesting deviation from the source material.

It wouldn't mark the first time The Walking Dead has made changes from Kirkman's comics, nor is it the first time a seemingly idyllic community turns out to be an antagonist, having become something of a general formula for the show. However, given the comics ended with Maggie being elected the new president of the Commonwealth, which has extended to the Washington D.C. communities, the series may be looking to take a more explosive direction to establish this ending for the long-running title. Only time will tell when The Walking Dead season 11B premieres on February 20.
