An exclusive clip from The Walking Dead season 10's next episode reveals how the survivors can truly defeat Alpha (Samantha Morton) and her Whisperers. All season long, the Whisperers have been antagonizing the survivors, sending a tree through a wall at Hilltop and attacking Alexandria with one small wave of walkers after another. But as The Walking Dead season 10 reaches the midway point, it's only a matter time before Alpha takes her plan to the next level and unleashes the zombie horde.

The survivors, however, hold a trump card: Lydia (Cassady McClincy), Alpha's daughter. The other Whisperers believe Alpha killed Lydia in some sacrificial act to their way of life, but she actually left her in Daryl's care. Were they to learn that Lydia is alive, they might turn on her, realizing Alpha's a fraud who can't even make the same sacrifices she expects of them. Then again, it may not even come to that. As Lydia explains in this new clip, if the Whisperers could just learn how much better life is in a community like Alexandria - fresh water, food, shelter, not having to wear dead people's skin - they also might turn on Alpha.

Lydia has struggled to feel accepted ever since joining the survivors in The Walking Dead season 9, but she continues to stick it out because she knows that even being an outcast in Alexandria is better than life among the Whisperers. And in this exclusive clip from The Walking Dead season 10's next episode, "Open Your Eyes", Lydia explains to Carol (Melissa McBride) how just the very idea of a place like Alexandria is dangerous to Alpha's power, hinting that it may be the real answer to defeating the her.

Carol pushes boundaries that make Daryl uncomfortable. Alpha and Beta have reservations about someone.

Ideas can certainly be dangerous weapons. Alpha uses the idea that living among the dead is the only way to survive in this new world. She teaches her followers that those who try to rebuild are weak, and that in time, these communities always fail. It's been a powerful message, feeding in to the hopelessness people feel about the current state of the world in The Walking Dead. The main characters of the series have been living in established communities for years now, but there are many who still live constantly on the move. Being accepted in to any group, even one as twisted as the Whisperers, can seem to some like the best option.

Lydia, however, sees things differently now. She's experienced how much better life can be within a real community. She's suffered hardships, too, but the good that comes from living in Alexandria far outweighs the bad. And if only a few Whisperers were to learn that living in such a place is actually possible, Alpha would lose all power over them.
