In a surprise announcement, the stories of Rick Grimes and Clementine from The Walking Dead universe will continue in a brand-new miniseries titled Skybound X. The miniseries will celebrate 10 years of the Skybound imprint from Image Comics and will feature a bevy of talented creators including Robert Kirkman, Ryan Ottley, Tillie Walden, and Donny Cates. Each chapter of Skybound X will include some fan-favorite and all-new characters.
For fans of The Walking Dead, the miniseries will bring new chapters to both Clementine, who originally debuted in The Walking Dead by Telltale Games, as well a future version of Rick Grimes that first appeared in The Walking Dead #75. What makes these upcoming stories even more intriguing is that Robert Kirkman is teaming up with his Invincible co-creator Ryan Ottley for Rick Grimes 2000. Meanwhile, Clementine will make her comic debut as the popular video game character is set to join The Walking Dead's expanded universe.
The future version of Rick Grimes originally appeared in The Walking Dead #75's backup story by Kirkman, Ottley, Cliff Rathburn, FCO Plascencia, and Rus Wooton, which imagined what would happen if Rick woke up in the middle of a zombie apocalypse in the far future. In the story, Grimes wears his own super suit and encounters a bunch of familiar faces who inform him that aliens have taken over and once people die, they've turned them into super-soldiers. In the comic, Michonne is brutally murdered by the Governor - who's partnered with the aliens. Funny enough, the short story ended with a "not to be continued!"
Clementine will make her comics debut in Skybound X #1. While there are no details on where or when the series might take place, it's incredibly cool to see the character make the jump to the comic page. Clementine is without question the most popular Walking Dead character who has never appeared in a comic or live-action project. The upcoming story could lead to even more Clementine stories in the future.
The impressive thing about the five-issue miniseries is that it's not just The Walking Dead who gets continued and new arcs. Skybound series including Ultramega, Manifest Destiny, Still Water, Murder Falcon, The Sidekicks of Trigger Keaton, Birthright, Assassin Nation, Science Dog, Gasolina, Redneck, and Excellence will all be featured in Skybound X.
