AMC is bringing The Walking Dead and Preacher to San Diego Comic Con 2019 as part of their lineup for the event. The Walking Dead is undergoing a major landscape shift at present, as the main series adapts to life without former lead protagonist, Rick Grimes. With season 10 currently in production, the future of The Walking Dead's cast is a regular source of speculation, but the Whisperer arc is in full swing and the introduction of the Commonwealth has been foreshadowed. There's also a movie spinoff starring Andrew Lincoln's Rick in the works, as well as the companion series, Fear The Walking Dead, which is currently airing its fifth season.
Preacher's situation could hardly be more different. Based on the graphic novels by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, Preacher stars Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga and Joseph Gilgun, as they unearth a world of paranormal monsters, religious conspiracies and a resurrected Adolf Hitler planning the return of the Third Reich from a fast food joint. Preacher's first season proved divisive, as it strayed from the comic book source material, but subsequent runs have enjoyed a better reception. Regardless, Preacher's forthcoming fourth season is confirmed to be the show's last.
According to Deadline, AMC's lineup for this year's SDCC event includes: The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead, Preacher, NOS4A2 and The Terror: Infamy. The network's DeadQuarters fan zone will be returning, as well as a Walker Horde photo op, recreated sets from both The Walking Dead shows and a canned food drive for Feeding San Diego, so be sure to pack a few cans to donate. Naturally, panels will be held for each series and the vast majority of the main casts and creative teams will be in attendance to answer questions.
As SDCC continues to grow and gather mainstream exposure, networks are becoming more competitive in drawing attendees to their respective areas. Amazon Prime Video recently revealed their own SDCC lineup featuring The Boys and The Expanse and have promised fans an immersive SDCC experience that recreates the feeling of living inside each of the major shows. While AMC's lineup certainly packs more star-power, it'll be interesting to see how the network's event presence fares against its streaming service competitors.
Ahead of AMC's showing at SDCC 2019, fans will be most eagerly looking for any news regarding the upcoming Rick Grimes movie and it's likely that at least some details will be revealed at the event. Little is currently known about the project, but AMC may have a title or synopsis ready in time for this year's panel. Trailers for The Walking Dead season 10 and Preacher season 4 could also premiere.
The Walking Dead season 10 is expected to premiere in October 2019 on AMC.
Preacher season 4 premieres August 4th on AMC.
