[SPOILERS for those not caught up on The Walking Dead ahead.]
Following The Walking Dead’s season 8 premiere, a sneak peek clip has been released from the next episode, which is going by the title “The Damned". The season premiere featured an all-new plan from Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, but ultimately the episode laid the groundwork for a major character’s death.
That's not all, either. The Old Man Rick mystery was seemingly tied up by the AMC show’s big comeback episode. This long-awaited hour of zombie drama also left fans wondering: how long will it be before Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan is taken brutally out of the game? Surely, it’s only a matter of time before Rick kills him. It just depends on how long the network wants this ‘All Out War’ arc to last.
For now, fans are looking forward to “The Damned”, also known as The Walking Dead season 8, episode 2. AMC has released a sneak peek video and a short synopsis for the episode, which tease - to some extent - what will go down in the new season’s sophomore installment:
“Jesus and Morgan weigh the options on their next attack. Don’t miss the next episode of The Walking Dead, Sunday, October 29 at 9/8c.”
The clip shows Tom Payne’s Jesus, Lennie James’ Morgan, Alanna Masterson’s Tara, and Kerry Cahill’s Diane eyeing up a target: Negan’s satellite dish outpost, which was raided in blood-letting style by Rick’s gang, awhile back. In the interim period, Negan has used fences to install a ‘moat’ of walkers around the base. This, of course, makes the task of busting in and killing a bunch of people a whole lot harder than it was before. The team needs to pick the perfect moment to sneak through, and they must avoid using their guns - or else they’ll be spotted by the undead perimeter guards. It should be fun to see how this plays out.
Negan has clearly been trying to dream up ways of fortifying his important bases from Rick’s gung-ho attacks. This defense mechanism is a smart upgrade for the satellite dish outpost: the base is now guarded, without Negan having to waste any living men on the job.
However, if the comics are anything to go by, fans will eventually get to meet some new players - from yet another different community - who have even better resources than Negan. This will unfold in the “New World Order” arc, which will introduce a community with the ability to craft specialist anti-zombie armor. It will take a while for the show to reach that point, but Negan’s new tactics are proof that the world of the TV series is slowly changing too, as its inhabitants come up with new creative ideas. Rick will have to adapt to survive.
The Walking Dead continues next Sunday with "The Damned" on AMC.
