The Walking Dead comic series might have surprisingly and abruptly ended earlier last year, with the surprise announcement that issue #193 would be the last book from the ongoing series. However, The Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard are teaming up for a brand new one-shot that fills in some gaps of what happened to Negan after his last comic appearance.

While The Walking Dead TV series is still going strong as it will soon wrap up its 10th series on AMC, the comic ended last year in surprising fashion. Without any previous warning, Kirkman and Adlard finished their ongoing comic after killing off the series' main character in what would turn out to be the penultimate series finale. It was great to see Kirkman and Adlard end the book on their own terms, however, the fact the series was over was shocking for longtime readers. In welcome news, Kirkman and Adlard will team-up from a brand new The Walking Dead one-shot comic called 'Negan Lives!' from Skybound and Image Comics.

The one-shot titled Negan Lives will showcase what happened to Negan since his last appearance in The Walking Dead #174 when he tried to get Maggie to kill him before burning his trademark baseball bat and walking away for good. Here's the description from Skybound as well as the one-shot's cover from Adlard.

Negan Walking Dead

Spurned by a slowly rebuilding society, Negan lives a life of desperate isolation... or does he? In the tradition of Here’s Negan, this all-new story in Negan Lives #1 gives readers a glimpse into what has happened to one The Walking Dead's most popular characters in the time since his last appearance in The Walking Dead #174.

Kirkman also revealed that the book will see 100% of the profits going back to comic retailers and that they will be shipped with no freight cost either.

I've been inspired by Steve Geppi and Diamond's efforts to shine a light on how essential the Direct Market is to our beloved industry with their #backthecomeback campaign,” said Kirkman. “While Charlie Adlard and I had laid the series to rest, this felt like something special we could do for the store owners who made our series a success to begin with. To that end, I'm happy to report that 100% of the revenue generated from this book will go to the stores selling it. The retailer community does backbreaking work to get comics into the hands of our loving fans, we should all be doing more in these trying times to show them how appreciated they are.

It's exciting to see Kirkman and Adlard team-up again to explain what's happened with Negan, with profits from the book going directly to comic shops. The creators clearly care about the comic industry and wanted to give The Walking Dead fans something cool to read while supporting shops around the world. Negan Lives #1 will be available in comic shops exclusively on July 1.
