The fan reaction to the final scenes of the 90-minute season wrap-up spectacular has been rife with controversy. AMC is clearly looking to cash-in on some of the online debate and ongoing controversy that HBO's Game of Thrones enjoyed following their season five finale and the ambiguous nature of Jon Snow's demise. In this vein, fans have no idea who Negan has killed, but there are a few theories.
The footage from the final scene of The Walking Dead season six has been posted online (see above). In the scene we find Negan taunting Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his defeated and defenseless group of survivors. He decides to play a condescending game of eenie, meenie, miney, moe to decide the fate of one of them. The possible victims include Rick, Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Daryl (Norman Reedus), Glenn (Steven Yeun), Rosita (Christian Serratos), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Carl (Chandler Riggs), Michonne (Danai Gurira) or Aaron (Ross Marquand). Who was it? Well, we have no idea.
The carefully crafted scene doesn't leave much for clues, so we're left to speculate. The only two that we can rule out are Rick and Carl, since Negan threatens to feed Carl's eye to Rick if anyone makes a move. However, here are some of the possible candidates.
Is Glenn the victim..again?
Does AMC have the nerve to toy with fans to this degree? Glenn has been the subject of death theories ever since his fatal fake-out in the mid-season finale. His character has kind of felt bulletproof since then, so perhaps they will follow the comic books and let Glenn die. On the other hand, show runner Scott M. Gimple has sworn that the show will take some "hard left turns" from the established comic book continuity this season.
If Daryl dies they riot!
The fact that Daryl is a character created specifically for the television series has lent to the constant fear that he'll be done away with to toy with fans. The 'If Daryl Dies We Riot' movement has been going strong for many years and it would definitely be a bold move to kill off a fan favorite like that. However, after Game of Thrones seemingly let Jon Snow go, all bets are off in the world of dramatic event television.
Is Abraham the one?
Viewers have been given a lot more emotional character development when it comes to Sgt. Ford and his very complicated emotional struggle. We have been a lot more privy to his personal side and his feelings for Sasha. He is another character that comes off as rather indestructible, so his death would certainly be impactful. Lets face it, The Walking Dead writers do enjoy making us like someone and then taking them away. The death of Beth was such a shock, because it came just as the fans were falling in love with her persona and we all saw great things for her to come.
Regardless of who is dead, there is no doubt that fans will be clamoring for the season 7 premiere.
