Morgan (Lennie James) may soon meet his end on Fear the Walking Dead, and his death would be significantly different compared to the comics. While the comic book version of Morgan shares many of the ideas and personality traits of James' character, the direction the comics took with Morgan was considerably different.

In the Fear the Walking Dead season 5 finale, Morgan and the others try to find a way to survive and stay together at Humbug's Gulch, despite the impending arrival of Virginia (Colby Minifie) and the Pioneers. They devise a plan to thwart the Pioneers, but it ultimately collapses. In the end, they realize that they have no choice but to give in to Virginia. Morgan manages to convince Virginia to take everyone. After everyone is split up and taken away except for Morgan, Virginia reveals her true intentions. She believes that Morgan 's beliefs stand in the way of her goals, and she shoots him. Virginia leaves Morgan for dead with a small group of walkers approaching him and nowhere to go.

If this is how Fear the Walking Dead plans to end Morgan's story, it's happening quite differently from how the comics handled his death. In the comics, Morgan died while fighting a horde of walkers in Alexandria. A wave of walkers was attacking Alexandria, forcing Rick and Morgan to stop them. Morgan's fate is sealed when a walker bites him on the arm. Despite knowing what's about to happen, Morgan doesn't give up. Michonne uses her sword to cut off his arm, but stopping the infection fails to save him. Moments before dying of blood loss, Morgan confuses Carl with his dead son, Duane.

Morgan Comic Death The Walking Dead

It's worth noting that the version of Morgan from the comics didn't make it nearly as far as Lennie James' character. In the comics, Morgan died in The Walking Dead #82, after the group reached Alexandria, but before the introduction of the Saviors. If the show had followed the comics to the letter, Morgan would have died sometime in The Walking Dead season 6. So even if Morgan's time in The Walking Dead universe has come to end, he has outlived his comic book counterpart by a wide margin.

This wouldn't be the first time that a character on The Walking Dead TV show has died long after their comic book counterpart; in some cases, characters have died in the TV series long before their comic counterparts as well. It's a benefit that the producers like to enjoy since the comic and TV universes are separate and AMC hasn't tried to make a one-to-one adaptation. But what's interesting is that Morgan would have been relegated to Fear the Walking Dead for his end rather than conclude his story on the main show.
