A behind the scenes video reveals how The Walking Dead pulled off Michonne's (Danai Gurira) alternate reality sequence. In the most recent episode of the popular AMC series, Michonne took center stage in her last episode. Gurira announced her intention to exit The Walking Dead last year, and fans immediately began to wonder how she would leave. Their questions were finally answered last weekend, when Michonne set off on her own to find her long-lost partner Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).

Before that, however, Michonne was held captive and drugged by Virgil (Kevin Carroll). This led to an extended sequence that explored what would have happened if Michonne had never saved Andrea (Laurie Holden) and thus never joined Rick and the others. Fans were shocked to learn Michonne could have become a Savior alongside Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and would have even stood opposite Rick in the infamous lineup from the start of season 7.

The lineup brought back several familiar faces, though most actors weren't present for it. A new video shows how The Walking Dead brought the entire sequence together, and it's largely thanks to CGI. The final product was a mixture of previously unused footage and newly filmed shots, with a blue screen being used to combine the two. Michonne's Savior moment was also created through pulling out old props, as in the case of Negan's beloved bat Lucille. You can see the video below:

The video also serves as a sweet tribute to Michonne and the journey she went on throughout her time on The Walking Dead. Executive producer Denise Huth explains Michonne's final episode, and thus her entire journey, is proof that "who you meet in this world definitely dictates what your path is." In the end, the video becomes a touching goodbye for Gurira as the cast and crew of The Walking Dead reflect on the affect she had on the show and on television in general. Gurira herself posted a heartfelt letter saying goodbye to her character while also saying thank you to the cast, crew, and fans.

Michonne certainly will be missed on The Walking Dead, though her time in the franchise at large might not be over. Walking Dead content officer Scott M. Gimple recently hinted that Michonne could appear in the planned Rick Grimes films, or that she might even get a film of her own. Regardless of what happens in the future, Michonne's final episode offered an interesting take on the character that fans had never considered before, and it's unlikely they'll forget it any time soon.
