The Walking Dead star, Lauren Cohan, recently admitted that she wants to play her character Maggie forever. Based on the comic book series of the same name, The Walking Dead debuted on AMC in October 2010, centered on a small group of survivors immediately following the onset of a zombie apocalypse. The series has since been on the air for 11 seasons and has since spawned three spinoff shows with three more on the way.

Cohan joined The Walking Dead in season 2 and quickly became a fan favorite as her budding romance with Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) took off. Following Glenn's brutal murder at the hands of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a harsh ruler of a group known as the Saviors, Maggie's demeanor took a turn as she became ruthless in her attempt to keep her son, as well as the community known as Hilltop, safe from any future threats. However, as the events of The Walking Dead season 11 would have it, Maggie found herself aligned with Negan as members of a vast community, the Commonwealth, threatened their lives. Although the final season has yet to be concluded, Maggie and Negan will continue their journey into the heart of Manhattan, New York City for their upcoming spinoff series, The Walking Dead: Dead City.

In a recent interview with EW, Cohan revealed that she wants to continue to play her The Walking Dead character, Maggie, forever. The actor has portrayed the hardened survivor for 11 years, with a short break season and a half break to star in a separate television show. However, Cohan now shares that if she had the chance, she would continue with the role for as long as she is allowed. Read what the actor said below.

"When people say to me, 'Wow, you've been doing that show so long,' I say, 'And I hope I do it forever.'"

Where Maggie Could Go After Negan Walking Dead Spinoff

Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Maggie and Negan VS A Walker in The Walking Dead

Although the main The Walking Dead series is coming to its dramatic conclusion this November, Cohan still has a significant future within the ever-expanding zombie universe. The Walking Dead: Dead City finds Maggie and Negan in a tentative partnership, heading into unknown territory for reasons that have yet to be disclosed to the public. With Maggie being one of the few characters to have been involved with the show from nearly the beginning, endured so much trauma, and is still alive with a young son to raise, it is likely that she will survive her trek to the Big Apple and come out stronger than before.

Whatever the reason that Maggie and Negan are compelled to partner on a new mission, the journey will likely bring them closer than ever, potentially granting Maggie closure for the murder of Glenn. Having resolved her internal fight, while probably surviving yet another external one in New York, Maggie may end up being the strong capable leader than can unite the varying factions spread throughout the United States. She already showed her potential as a quality leader at Hilltop. With The Walking Dead about to end, but the franchise nowhere near done with various planned spinoffs, Maggie has the potential to return indefinitely.
