Spoilers for The Walking Dead, season 11, episode 21 below!

Community star, Yvette Nicole Brown, recently broke down how her The Walking Dead cameo happened. Based on the long-running Robert Kirkman comic book series of the same name, the horror-drama premiered in October 2010 and focused on a small group of survivors shortly after the onset of a global zombie apocalypse. Over the course of the show's 12 years and 11 seasons, The Walking Dead featured an expansive revolving cast as each season routinely killed off beloved characters. The show also routinely included cameos of popular actors including The Talking Dead host, Chris Hardwick, The Mist star, Sam Witwer, and NFL legend, Hines Ward.

Season 11, episode 21, "Outpost 22," find many of the heroes captured by the Commonwealth's forces and used as laborers in work camps. Meanwhile, Maggie, Gabriel, and Rosita escape custody and reunite with Darryl and Carol. Together they attempt to track down the Commonwealth's movements to locate and free their friends. In a desperate attempt to obtain the location of Outpost 22, Rosita uses the radio and places a distress call as one of the Commonwealth's guards. In a voice-only cameo, Brown's voice answers the call and informs Rosita that Outpost 22 is actually Alexandria and relays directions to its location.

In a recent interview with EW, Brown explained how her The Walking Dead cameo finally happened. The actor, who is a self-professed superfan and no stranger to The Talking Dead post-episode talk show, revealed that she approached the show's producers and requested to be a part of the final episodes of the show in some way. Read what Brown said below:

"I was super sad that the show was ending, and told Angela Kang and Scott Gimple that I wished I could be a part of the show in some way before they wrapped. Traveling to Atlanta to perhaps be a walker wasn't possible, so they came up with the idea of me being a part of the show via voiceover, and I couldn't have been more excited to do that. I didn't know if I'd be credited, and didn't know if my fellow fans would be able to tell it was me if I wasn't. I'm surprised that quite a few knew it was me immediately and am humbled that I was credited — I would've been happy being an eternal Easter egg on my favorite show."

How Yvette Nicole Brown Could Return to TWD

Although Brown's cameo was voice only, she still has a chance to appear in The Walking Dead universe in various ways. Although there are only three more episodes left in the show, the zombie horror franchise is far from dead. With Fear the Walking Dead still running and multiple spinoff series' planned, to include Daryl Dixon, The Walking Dead: Dead City, and a future Rick Grimes and Michonne limited series, it is possible for Brown to return.

With the future of the Commonwealth uncertain, it is possible for Brown to reprise her part as the radio dispatcher in a spinoff series. With more time available to plan and schedule, the actor may even have the chance to feature in a full role. But due to the fact that only her voice was used in "Outpost 22," she can return to the series in a completely different capacity. As The Walking Dead concludes, completing its decade-long run on November 20, audiences must be patient to see if Brown will return when the franchise continues with its spinoffs.
