Following the end of the long-running The Walking Dead series this upcoming fall, fans will be able to see the world, and some main characters, in action through the various current and planned spinoffs.

Throughout the nearly eleven seasons of the original series, there have been many characters that have come and gone. While there are many fan-favorite characters, both central and supporting, that have populated the show, some viewers didn't care for them as much as others. Although TWD is notorious for killing off characters, these Redditors shared their opinions about which fan-favorite character, dead or alive, overstayed their welcome.

Andrea

Andrea in The Walking Dead

Though Andrea is one of the most hated characters according to many fans, some audience members really enjoyed her character. She was loved by those that yearned for a strong female character that made their own decisions and fought for what they wanted.

However, she became far less likable to these fans after she allied with the Governor. Reddit user maggot-rock said, "I liked that she was a powerful and independent woman but she also didn't really look out for the team n just did what she wanted." Despite her positive qualities, fans weren't interested in her character after she refused to kill the Governor to ensure peace.

Tara

Tara quickly became a fan favorite after she was introduced. After she was no longer allied with the Governor and she helped Glenn find Maggie, she became a valued and active member of the main group.

However, despite her likability, many fans think she became boring after a few seasons. One Reddit user said, "Wish Tara had died during season 8 instead. That season really needed a couple of extra main characters heads to roll." At this point, fans favored her dying over other central characters because she played far less of a role in the overall plot.

Tyreese

Chad Coleman in The Walking Dead as Tyreese

Tyreese was a beloved character throughout most of his time in the series. He was known for his kind nature and idolized for saving Judith, Mika, and Lizzie after the fall of the prison.

However, not all fans thought he was a necessary character to keep around up to the point he reached. Reddit user o1pickleboy said, "So in my opinion [Tyreese] would have been better off getting bit by a walker and having his leg eaten in Bob's place." Though he was clearly a likable character, some fans thought he didn't serve as much of a purpose as others.

Beth

Many fans thought Beth deserved to live and were upset about her death at the hospital after the fall from the prison. However, others never really enjoyed her character and thought she had no significant role in the group.

As a supporting character earlier on, Beth wasn't seen often until later on following the establishment of the prison community. Reddit user Ingtar2 said, " To be honest, I never really understood what makes her so interesting." Other fans also thought her singing was an annoying addition and even admitted skipping over her parts.

The Governor

Despite the fact that The Governor was a villain in the show, many viewers believe he's one of the best baddies in the series. His character was well-developed and offered an interesting look into the complex psyche of the antagonists.

However, some thought his coming back to destroy the prison community was unnecessary and thought he should have died early on. Reddit user hunta-gathera said, "Although the first several episodes of season 4 are great, The fall of the prison should have happened several episodes before it did." These viewers were not interested in seeing him get his short redemption before converting back to his villainous ways.

Sasha

Sasha In The Walking Dead

Sasha's death was one of the most unexpected, shocking both the audience and the other characters alike. When she decided to end her life while being transported by the Saviors, fans were surprised to see her die in this manner.

However, some fans thought she should have died before this event. Reddit user rightellie said, "They never knew what to do with her after Bob died." Though she had a few plot lines following Bob's death, fans thought she became less prominent after that moment.

Gabriel

Father Gabriel holding a cup in The Walking Dead

Gabriel was not well-liked when he first encountered the group, especially after they learned he locked his parish out of the church at the start of the apocalypse. As he became a valued member of the group, many fans thought Gabriel's growth was admirable.

Despite his more likable nature in newer episodes, some fans never got over his poor introduction and didn't appreciate his hypocrisy when it came to life and death, especially in regard to his religious preachings. Reddit user NoCountryForBoldSpam said, "I suppose I'll always see him as the coward snitch."

Shane

Shane Walsh holding a rifle in The Walking Dead

Shane became one of the first villains in the series, despite being Rick's closest ally and friend. Some fans actually quite appreciated his character despite his moral wrongdoings and conniving nature.

His character is one of the most controversial within the series, either loved or hated among the fans. However, the same fans could never stand him and didn't want him to live past season one. Reddit user LarYungmann said, "I was ready for Shane to die after five minutes." Though he was a central conflict in season 2, his meddling was quite annoying for some fans.

Rosita

Rosita Espinosa holding a gun in The Walking Dead

Rosita is a controversial character as well, though many fans respect her ability to protect the group and encourage others to do the same thing. Though she gets unhinged after Abraham's death, many thought it was understandable given the circumstances.

Despite her value as a strong fighter, some viewers think she hasn't contributed enough to the plot in recent episodes. Reddit user Haghuri said, "I don't want her dead, but she really seems like a character they keep around just for the sake of it."

Maggie

Maggie wearing a hat in The Walking Dead

Maggie has largely been a fan-favorite character for many seasons. Not only was her spunk and brazen personality entertaining, but she quickly became a leader within the group.

However, there are some fans that haven't cared for her since her introduction and didn't see her lasting as long as she has. Reddit user grilledchesse11987 said, "Maggie has always been one for me that I think is boring and have zero attachment to." Though some fans think she's overstayed her welcome in the series, her planned spinoff ensures her survival.
