Thor's hammer Mjolnir is one of the most powerful weapons in the Marvel Universe. The God of Thunder's enchanted hammer is a serious threat against practically every supervillain Thor comes across. But, what if Mjolnir popped up during the zombie apocalypse? In The Walking Dead comic, the hammer sort of did.

The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore first debuted in 2003. The Image Comic series was a massive hit for the comic publisher as the story of Rick Grimes waking up in a ravaged world in the middle of a zombie apocalypse has been adapted into multiple television series, books, video games, and more. Kirkman is no stranger to the Marvel Comics Universe, as he's known for his Marvel Zombies title and it's numerous spinoffs. So, it should come as no surprise that he (and artist Charlie Adlard) put in a small Marvel easter egg in the pages of The Walking Dead.

In The Walking Dead #123 by Kirkman, Adlard, Stefano Gaudiano, Cliff Rathburn, Rus Wooton, and Dave Stewart, Negan is rallying his group of Saviors. It's the calm before the storm, as Negan's army is preparing for a massive battle against Rick and the rest of the survivors. While Rick would soon surprise Negan with an attack later in the issue, when the villain is preparing his own troops, one of the Saviors is wielding a hammer that looks exactly like Mjolnir.

The bald man in the middle of the panel is one of the few Saviors not holding a gun. Instead, he's holding a hammer that looks like a smaller version of Mjolnir. The weapon is the exact same shape as Thor's enchanted hammer, has a similar circle on the top, and also has the same handle. Now, it's clearly not Mjolnir, otherwise, Negan would have an unstoppable force among his Savior army. Zombies would stand no chance against someone wielding Mjolnir. But, it's a nice nod to Thor and Marvel.

It's too bad the actual Mjolnir from the pages of Marvel Comics doesn't exist in The Walking Dead universe. Thor's hammer might be enough to stop the zombie apocalypse, or at the very least, bring order to those trying to navigate through it. Regardless, Mjolnir showing up in The Walking Dead is a fun blink-and-you'll-miss easter egg by Kirkman and Adlard that pays tribute to the Marvel Universe and Thor's classic weapon.
