Those who survived the NYCC Panel for AMC’s upcoming zombie apocalyptic TV series The Walking Dead know from experience just how fervent the anticipation for this show is right now.
AMC has now unleashed a new 17-minute behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Walking Dead, which was created by writer/director Frank Darabont of Shawshank Redemption fame.
The Walking Dead stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, a police officer who goes into a coma after he is gunned in the line of duty. He thereafter awakens to a world overrun by a zombie epidemic and sets out in the hopes of finding his wife Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) and son Carl (Chandler Riggs). Grimes meets several other living humans along the way, who also must struggle to survive in a world populated by mindless, flesh-eating corpses.
Several TV spots and an action-driven preview have been released as buildups to the premiere of The Walking Dead this Halloween. AMC has now unveiled this in-depth look at the sets, crew, and design of the show, which looks to join Boardwalk Empire as one of the Fall 2010 television season‘s big new hits.

Robert Kirkman penned the bestselling black & white comic series that The Walking Dead was based on and he will get to see his creation brought to life in anther medium as well – that of literature.
Thomas Dunne Books is going to publish a new trilogy of novels based in the Walking Dead universe that were conceptualized and outlined by Kirkman himself. Horror novelist Jay Bonansinga will write the actual trilogy, the first entry in which will hit bookstores in 2011.
The original Walking Dead comic books are heavy on atmosphere and deal with the gloomy nature of a world laid to ruin by some exterior force (in this case, zombies) on a very personal level. Kirkman’s work is very much story and character-driven, which is why the involvement of both Darabont and AMC is a good sign for its TV adaptation. There will be plenty of zombie-killing action as well, since The Walking Dead is still foremost a tale of humans surviving and doing battle against monsters.
Anticipation is high enough for The Walking Dead that it was rumored to have been renewed for a second season already, even though the pilot has not yet been aired. Are chances good that another Walking Dead season will happen eventually? If the NYCC Panel incident was any indication, then the answer in unequivocally, yes.
The Walking Dead will premiere on AMC on October 31st, 2010.
