The Walking Dead: Dead City star Mahina Napoleon has seemingly confirmed in an interview that the spinoff centered around Maggie Rhee and Negan Smith has already been renewed for a second season. Napoleon plays a young survivor, Ginny, in the upcoming spinoff series. In The Walking Dead series finale, Maggie cannot forgive Negan for killing her husband, Glenn Rhee, despite her gratitude for him saving her son, Hershel. The Walking Dead: Dead City will continue to follow the pair and their unique dynamic through a hellish New York City.

In an interview with Star-Advertiser, Napoleon discusses her current career as an actor and her long-standing admiration for The Walking Dead.

When questioned about her future plans, she mentions that she is set to return to New York to begin filming a second season of The Walking Dead: Dead City. Though there has been no official confirmation that the spinoff has been renewed for season 2 as of now, Napoleon's comment seemingly confirms that it has been greenlit. Read on for her full quote:

So, soon I’m going to be going to LA to promote my TV show, returning to NCIS: Hawai’i season 3, and going back to Walking Dead season 2.

Though The Walking Dead came to a conclusion last year after 11 seasons and 177 episodes, the franchise is still going strong. Long-running spinoff Fear the Walking Dead returns for its eighth and final season on AMC on May 14. The spinoff series, Tales of the Walking Dead, hasn't yet been officially renewed for a second season, but a working title for another spinoff More Tales From TWDU has recently been announced.

The Walking Dead's conclusion has so far spawned three spinoff shows following major characters from the original show. The aforementioned The Walking Dead: Dead City, which seemingly has already been renewed, as well as Paris-based The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon premiering later this year, and the highly anticipated return of Rick Grimes and Michonne in a six-episode spinoff set to air in 2024.

It is currently unknown how long these spinoffs will run for, and the direction the franchise will take once they conclude, but Gimple's aim is to create more Walking Dead spinoffs with original characters and to continue to widen the post-apocalyptic world that has been established over a huge amount of television. The plan, at least in the case of The Walking Dead: Dead City, is to continue to tell the stories of the classic show characters.
