The synopsis for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon teases the mystery behind Daryl going all the way from the United States to France in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. The Walking Dead spinoff series sees Norman Reedus reprising his role of crossbow-wielder Daryl Dixon for a brand-new story in the world of the show, with audiences following, for the first time, a series set in another country. Daryl will serve as the familiar link between the old The Walking Dead and this new chapter of the franchise.AMC has issued a press release announcing the time frames for the premiere of four series in The Walking Dead Universe, revealing The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon's late 2023 intended release and the show's official synopsis. Check out the full synopsis below:

In The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Daryl (Reedus) washes ashore in France and struggles to piece together how he got there and why. The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan.

The Walking Dead's series finale set Daryl on his journey, with Maggie tasking him with finding out more about what was going on in the wider world of the zombie apocalypse. What both characters likely didn't expect, was that Daryl would end up in France. The character will have no memory of how and why he got to Europe but will try to piece the information together as he searches for a way back home.

What To Expect From Daryl’s Journey In France

Initially planned as a Daryl and Carol two-hander, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon became a Reedus-led show following the news that star Melissa McBride dropped out of the series for unknown reasons. While Daryl won't have the company of Rick Grimes and his other friends in the spinoff, the character isn't going to be alone, as the synopsis itself said "the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan." Daryl will have the company of progressive religious group member Isabelle and British underground nightclub owner Quinn, played by Reedus' co-stars Clémence Poésy (Harry Potter) and Adam Nagaitis (Chernobyl), respectively.

The friendship of new characters isn't the only thing Daryl will encounter during his time in France, as the character will have to deal with newfound horrors that have been hinted at by another spinoff, The Walking Dead: World Beyond. Daryl will realize that the outbreak in France is different from the ongoing walker situation in America. While The Walking Dead presented regular, slow zombies for most of its 11-season run, save for the smarter walkers in the series finale, The Walking Dead: World Beyond ended with a post-credits scene that showed France has been dealing with faster zombies that can sprint after survivors. That reveal will present Daryl with a situation he's never imagined, which should prove interesting to audiences.

Could Daryl Meet A Major The Walking Dead Comics Character In The Show?

Daryl's spinoff series taking place in France puts the survivor close to another major character from The Walking Dead comics. The Walking Dead: The Alien, a special one-off story set in the world of The Walking Dead, introduced comic book readers to none other than Jeffrey Grimes, Rick Grimes' brother. Jeff's revealed to be in Barcelona, Spain when the zombie apocalypse hits. The comic follows Rick's brother as he tries to find a boat to return home to his brother "Richie". The Walking Dead: The Alien ends with Jeff getting bit in the leg and presumably dying. Daryl could find Jeff in the spinoff, given France and Spain's proximity, and introduce The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon audiences to Rick Grimes' brother in a new spin to his story in the comics.
