Robert Kirkman's first comic book project since the conclusion of The Walking Dead has been unveiled as he will team up with Chris Samnee, Matt Wilson and Rus Wooton for new ongoing series titled Fire Power. The Skybound/Image book will be an action-packed affair packed with tons of, you've guessed it, fire.

Fire Power will follow Owen Johnson, whose journey to China to learn more about his birth parents takes him to a mysterious Shaolin Temple. In the temple, students study about the lost art of fireballs - known as Fire Power. Owen will discover the power is needed to save the world as he might become the first person in more than a thousand years to wield the Fire Power.

The creative team is an experienced mix of comic powerhouses. After The Walking Dead surprisingly ended this year, there was plenty of hype and excitement to see what Kirkman would do next. He's continued with the ongoing Oblivion Song - which is heading to the big screen - but hasn't created a new title since Walking Dead #193. Samnee is fresh off a great run on Captain America alongside Mark Waid, while Wilson might be the best colorist in the business. His resume includes The Wicked + The Divine, Paper Girls, and Marvel's War of the Realms. Readers can check out the cover and first pages of Fire Power below, along with Kirkman's own hopes for the series.

Before an issue even comes out, Fire Power has assembled an all-star creative team, and Kirkman is understandably excited to work with Samnee:

Getting to create a whole new world with its own mythology and rules is always the highlight of my life. Getting to do that with Chris Samnee is definitely a high watermark in this dusty old career of mine... With a massive cast of characters populating this sprawling globe-spanning epic Chris has proven more than adept at handling anything I've thrown at him in the time we've been toiling away on this series in secret. Kung Fu, Fireballs, Chris Samnee, crazy action, Chris Samnee, Chris Samnee. What more could I say to get you excited about this book?

First Power is set to launch from Image/Skybound in May 2020. Time will tell if it can hold The Walking Dead-sized hole in your reading list.
