Warning: Spoilers for The Walking Dead season 11, episode 13

The Walking Dead shows are implying that the Commonwealth would lose to the CRM. The Walking Dead season 11 has made it abundantly clear that Pamela Milton’s massive, highly organized network of settlements is an incredibly powerful force in The Walking Dead universe. Even so, it’s apparently not the strongest one around.

To Daryl, Michonne, and all the others, the Commonwealth is the biggest community they’ve come across in the zombie apocalypse. What they don’t know is that there’s another group out there also looking to rebuild the world into what it was once. Like the Commonwealth, the Civic Republic boasts thousands of residents who live in a seemingly safe, prosperous society. While they do have their similarities, there’s no confirmed connection between the two in The Walking Dead universe. But with both being such huge organizations, there’s always a chance that one has knowledge of the other’s existence. If not, they could still end up in conflict with each other at some point down the road.

When it comes to who would win between the CRM and the Commonwealth, an answer may have already been provided. In The Walking Dead: World Beyond, the CRM annihilated the Omaha community, which was home to over 97,000 people. Interestingly, the Commonwealth is much smaller than the group the CRM wiped out. As Lance Hornsby stated in the Commonwealth’s introductory video, over 50,000 survivors are counted as members. In comparison, the CRM has a total population of 200,000, making it the bigger and more powerful group.

The Walking Dead season 11, episode 13, titled “Warlords” supported the idea that Commonwealth’s power isn’t unrivaled. As Maggie (Lauren Cohan) pointed out in her talk with Elijah (Okea Eme-Akwari) and Lydia (Cassady McClincy), the Commonwealth hasn’t been tested in ten years. Her concern is that despite their numbers, they could still fall. What happened to Omaha in World Beyond proves Maggie is right in at least that regard. The Commonwealth is far from invincible. If the CRM were to wage war with them, they would most assuredly end up on the losing end.

Fortunately for the Commonwealth, they do have a rather impressive military force. The Commonwealth soldiers are well supplied with armor and weapons, which would make defeating them difficult. Based on what’s known about them, taking them down wouldn’t be as easy as it was to beat Omaha, which they accomplished with gas. It makes sense that the Commonwealth would be better prepared for an attack. As for whether or not a battle between them would ever come to pass, it is a possibility for the franchise’s future, especially if Rick Grimes’ story in the movies were to intersect with his former group. If that were to happen though, it could mean doom for the Commonwealth.
