When The Walking Dead began as a comic book series, it was all about people trying to survive a zombie apocalypse. Called walkers in the series, these individuals knew they needed to work together to live, but then something happened in a very short timeframe. Humans became even worse than the walkers, and villains rose in the world as would-be conquerors.

As the original Walking Dead series ended, the walkers are no longer that scary. Unless a hoard of them arrive at once, the human survivors have little trouble in dispatching of them. However, the villains become more and more horrendous, and while many of them become cool fan favorites, others remain completely laughable.

Thomas

Thomas and the other prisoners in The Walking Dead comics.

While he is not laughable in a humorous way, Thomas was one of the most pathetic villains that the survivors had to battle in The Walking Dead comics. He was one of the four prisoners the survivors found in the prison when they made their way there. Thomas was also the one who looked the least dangerous. He was deadly, as he murdered two young children in the group. Vengeance was swift and harsh, and when facing the adult survivors, he never stood a chance.

Gregory

Gregory looked just as safe as Thomas, but he was equally pathetic and laughable as a villain. Gregory was the man who ruled over the Hilltop Community. He lived in a nice big house and had luxuries that no one else in the community held. However, he had people working for him that kept everyone safe, and therefore kept his position. When he realized Maggie was taking control, he tried to manipulate people to kill her and failed. Maggie ended his threat swiftly and without compassion.

The Scavengers

For those who only watched The Walking Dead on TV, the Scavengers there were Jadis and her Garbage People. However, the version from The Walking Dead comics was very different and much less competent. These villains showed up in the comics and attacked the survivors in the Alexandria Safe Zone. They caused the deaths of Morgan, Jessie Anderson, and were the big reason Carl ended up losing an eye. However, this was all because of their actions in raiding the town. As a group, they fell easily.

The Hunters

For Walking Dead television fans, the Hunters were the comic book characters that become Terminus on the small screen. There was a big lead-in on the series, and they seemed like quite the threat, and then Carol blew them all up.

In the comics, they were at least cooler than someone like Gregory, but how cool is a group that's entire purpose is cannibalism? They also weren't a great threat either, only lasting for six issues before Rick slaughtered the entire group.

Pamela and Sebastian

The last villains that the survivors in The Walking Dead comics had to fight were not villains at the start. The Commonwealth was a community with thousands of citizens living there. As a result, it needed law and order. Pamela was mostly a good person, trying to run this society the best she could, and she was cool enough to see Michonne’s value. However, her son Sebastian brings them both down. He was a spoiled jerk who ended up killing Rick Grimes in a cowardly attack.

The Walkers

It says a lot to believe that mindless walkers are cooler than some human villains in the world of The Walking Dead. However, when compared to bureaucrats like Pamela and Gregory and cowards like Thomas and the Scavengers, even the walkers seem more respectable. Plus, there have been some cool-looking walkers and even some that seemed well-trained like the ones Michonne walked with when she first showed up. By the end of The Walking Dead comics, some walkers ended up in a traveling sideshow.

Alpha

Alpha was an interesting character, yet one that ended up completely evil. She led her group of survivors known as The Whisperers. She learned how to walk among the dead without them noticing, and it involved wearing their skin, specifically cutting the faces off the dead and wearing them.

That is pretty far from being cool, but Alpha was nowhere near laughable. Her followers believed in her, and she did everything she could to protect her people. She had some dark secrets, but in the end, she had a chance to be good but chose to go down the dark roads.

The Governor

The Governor on The Walking Dead television series was cooler in every way imaginable to the one from the comics. However, in his own way, the Governor from the comics had his charms and an ability to win people over. He ran the town of Woodbury and did it in a manner where he kept his people happy. He would lure in survivors and force them to fight zombies for his town's pleasure. People loved him there, but he was as deadly and slimy as they come underneath his fake charms.

Shane

Shane Walsh was not a villain to start. He was Rick Grimes' best friend. When the zombie apocalypse started, he did what he could to ensure none could get to Rick, who was in a coma after an escaped convict shot him. Shane then did everything he could to protect Rick's wife and son, the most capable fighter in The Walking Dead's early days.

However, Shane then fell in love with Rick's wife and wasn't happy to see his old friend out of a coma and back to reclaim his family. Shane was as cool as it gets at first, helping lead these survivors until Rick showed up. Then, Jealousy overwhelmed him.

Negan

Negan is the coolest villain in The Walking Dead history, whether it was in the comics or on the TV show. He was a brutal and violent murderer and he killed some beloved characters, with Glenn as the best example. However, Negan was also someone who easily charmed people and those people would follow him to the ends of the Earth. He even slightly won over Rick even after the Glenn murder and helped Carl when he needed it. Negan was possibly cooler than even most of the heroes in the series, and most readers wanted him to survive to the end.
