The Walking Dead has seen characters fighting for their survival for 10 seasons, battling both the undead and their even more evil fellow survivors. Along the way, these characters have done many things, some heroic and others very dishonorable, just to stay alive. Almost no one who started this journey remains alive at this point.

An apocalypse is a dangerous place. It takes a very smart person to survive and a very lucky person to do it with their morals intact. However, as long as they live, they have to consider it a good day. Here is a look at five Walking Dead characters we would want on our team in the apocalypse, and five we wouldn't.

YES: DARYL

The original cast from season 1 is down to two survivors, not including Rick, who has gone to parts unknown. Of those two, it is Daryl that offers the best companion for anyone who wants to survive the zombie apocalypse.

Sure, the people close to him aren't always lucky, as Beth and Merle learned, but if someone earns Daryl's trust, he will kill to protect them. The fact that he is not only a 10-year survivor but doesn't look to die anytime soon, and it is Daryl, who is the MVP of The Walking Dead TV show.

NO: RICK

Ask any fan of The Walking Dead TV show who they would want to stand by their side during the end of days, and they would probably choose Rick Grimes. However, Rick is nowhere near a rock-solid choice for anyone who wants to live. He started as a great leader, but as the years went on, he slipped up way too many times.

He ordered the cold-blooded murder of Negan's Saviors, which resulted in the deaths of Glenn and Abraham. He grew not to trust anyone, which was a good trait for a survivor but a terrible trait for someone who wants to restart society. Rick was sloppy and dangerous, and too many people died because of him.

YES: MICHONNE

Michonne is very handy with a sword. That is a helpful trait to have when seeking to lop off the heads of the walking dead. She is also fearless and very protective of those she loves. In the start, Michonne wasn't the character easiest to get along with, but times changed.

Michonne is leaving The Walking Dead soon, but through her nine years on the show, she has done enough to prove that she is a great companion and has a strong moral compass when dealing with the evils of the world.

NO: GABRIEL

Seth Gilliam as Father Gabriel in The Walking Dead

When the survivors met Father Gabriel, he had a horrible secret he was hiding. He got scared when the outbreak started and locked all his parishioners outside the church. He then listened to them scream as they all died at the hands of the walking dead.

Gabriel has become more heroic over time, but he never really felt like a great ally to have on your side. When trapped and in danger, he almost always needed someone to save him. He also has terrible luck and would be a burden on anyone who stuck with him.

YES: EUGENE

Looking at Eugene from the outside and he is someone that no one would consider a legitimate ally in the post-zombie apocalypse. He is easily frightened, is scared to fight, needs someone to protect him when the going gets tough, and is a proven liar.

However, the guy is a genius. Need a short circuit radio to contact help? Eugene can get it running. Need bullets for ammunition? He knows how to make those too. This is the guy who won't fight by your side, but he will make sure you have everything you need to win the fight.

NO: GREGORY

Gregory in The Walking Dead played by Xander Berkeley

This is a no-brainer. Gregory was the leader of the Hilltop when Rick and company rolled into town. It was his suggestion to kill the Saviors that resulted in Rick's worst decision, which resulted in the death of Glenn and Abraham.

When Maggie took control of the Hilltop, it was Gregory who was devious and tried to have her killed. When it came time to fight the Saviors, Gregory went to them to save his own life. The moment that Maggie had Gregory hung was the best his character deserved.

YES: CAROL

Carol and Daryl in The Walking Dead season 10 Bonds

As mentioned earlier, there are only two people left from the first season. Daryl is one and Carol is the other. If there was anyone that shocked viewers after that first season, it is Carol. She went from suffering as an abused wife to one of the strongest warriors of the survivors.

When Rick and the other survivors needed to be saved, Carol showed up with machine guns and a bazooka. She is devious and vindictive, and unlike Rick, who makes public decisions that put everyone in danger. Carol keeps it close to the chest — and almost always wins.

NO: ANDREA

In the comic books, there is nobody someone would want on their side more than Andrea. She was a no-nonsense fighter, a crack shot, and one of the best warriors of anyone in the entire group of survivors. By the time she finally died, she was a true hero and saved more people than almost anyone.

On the TV show, Andrea wanted to die from the moment that she lost her sister. She was a hindrance to the other survivors, putting them in danger. She was mousy and ended up hanging with The Governor until she finally got the chance to end her own life.

YES: NEGAN

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan in The Walking Dead with Lucille on his shoulder

Most fans of The Walking Dead TV show saw Negan as the worst villain in the series. He smashed in Glenn's head and murdered Abraham. He had no problem with killing people to prove he was the man to keep order. However, he was not always in the wrong.

Negan killed Glenn and Abraham after Rick and Glenn led a charge to murder several Saviors in their sleep. The people that Negan watched over all knew he would protect them, and he did until Rick attacked and caused most of them to die. Negan was a protector and was loyal to those loyal to him.

NO: THE GOVERNOR

The Governor from The Walking Dead holding a rifle and wearing an eyepatch.

Unlike Negan, The Governor cared about no one but himself. He would take his own men and put them into gladiatorial battles with the walking dead. He welcomed in Rick and Glenn, only to lead them into a trap for his amusement and to give his followers entertainment.

The Governor was arguably the most untrustworthy person on the entire Walking Dead TV show. He also beheaded Herschel. In the comics, he was worst, gunning down Lori and Baby Judith. The guy was despicable, and even those on his side were in constant danger.
