Veronica Roth's Divergent series introduced a world where society is separated into categories based on their interests, skills, and values. These factions were Dauntless (The Brave), Erudite (The Intelligent), Amity (The Kind), Abnegation (The Selfless), and Candor (The Honest). Their work and overall places in society are chosen based on their faction.

The Walking Dead first aired in 2010 and is known for its exceptionally broad ensemble cast full of layered, complicated characters navigating a dangerous, dystopian world. Let's take a look at 10 characters from the show, and see what Divergent factions they would fall into based on their most defining traits.

Rick Grimes (Dauntless)

Dauntless are the policemen, soldiers, and warriors. Their place in society is to guard and to fight. Rick Grimes fits right in with the brave ones.

Pre-apocalypse, Rick was a sheriff's deputy who is shot in the line of duty while in pursuit of three armed perps. Post-apocalypse, Rick fills a similar role as the constant leader and protector. There are times when he doesn't want the job, but he's done his best given the circumstances and the countless tragedies he's suffered along the way.

Maggie Rhee (Candor)

Candor faction members say what they mean, and mean what they say. Honesty and openness are important because dishonesty is a gateway to evil. Maggie goes through a lot of transformation throughout the series, but especially after Glenn's death, she is unafraid to let her opinions be heard, even if the person she is talking to doesn't like what she has to say.

Maggie's views on honesty are made crystal clear at Hilltop when she executes Gregory for his continuous, slimy, underhanded acts of betrayal that put herself and the community at risk.

Eugene Porter (Erudite)

Erudite are scientists, inventors, and knowledge seekers. Eugene Porter struggles with an awkwardness in social situations and tends to speak in long, drawn-out speeches full of big words, but his genius is unmatched.

Eugene has a vast library of knowledge in his head that regularly gets the group out of tough situations. He is very scientific-minded and loves to experiment with chemistry or electronics. He is also fascinated with salvaging technology, such as radios and satellites.

Hershel Greene (Amity)

Hershel is a father, farmer, and veterinarian. He can be stubborn and stuck to his own set of morals, but kindness and empathy guide his actions. He is a good father, who recognized his drinking problem and quit after Maggie was born.

Hershel loves animals, he enjoys the quiet life, and he opens his farm to Rick's group. He often serves as a mentor and advisor to Rick, often being quick to gently but firmly remind him that people need more than survival, they also need happiness.

Carol Peletier (Dauntless)

Carol is a fighter and a fierce protector who doesn't take lip from anybody. She does what she has to, and nothing less. Even more than just smart, Carol is clever and skilled. She is willing to go so far as sacrifice Lizzie, or threaten young children like Sam in order to keep order and safety in the group.

When Morgan refuses to kill, Carol has a lot to say about it. “If you care about people, there are people to protect. There are people who you will kill for. If you don’t want to kill or if you can’t, then you have to get away from them."

Luke (Erudite)

Erudites aren't only the scientists, but also the teachers. Luke is a softhearted survivor still in love with the beauty of the arts, even in the post-apocalyptic world. He feels like an Amity-born transfer to Erudite, because of his love for creative-based knowledge.

Luke is a music teacher and is constantly seeking a way to preserve instruments and symphonies from being lost forever. He even convinces Michonne to risk stopping at a library so that he can raid the music section for books.

Daryl Dixon (Abnegation)

Abnegation faction members serve the people, dress in drab clothing, and avoid mirrors. They help the needy, and they are humble. Between his bravery, tattoos, and his fighting skills, Daryl might feel like a good fit for Dauntless, but he isn't about the loud, abrasiveness of the soldier faction.

Daryl is selfless. He likes to quietly serve the group by finding food or watching the perimeter. He doesn't like drawing attention to himself, even when it comes to the few closest to him, and he certainly doesn't care about his clothing or how he looks.

Negan (Dauntless)

Negan thrives for a time as the leader of the Saviors, and it's his lust for adrenaline and a good fight that propels him through the apocalypse. He is similar to the cruel Dauntless leader, Eric, and enjoys having control and exercising authority over others.

Negan is physically fit and mentally strong. He is a skilled fighter, both hand to hand and with weapons, and he is not afraid to get those hands dirty. His favorite weapon of choice is Lucille, his barbed-wire covered bat.

King Ezekiel (Amity)

King Ezekiel is right at home in Amity, the faction of the peaceful. He is the King of the theatrically named community called "The Kingdom," but he values safety and harmony above all.

Ezekiel is a benevolent leader and never seeks to take advantage of his "subjects," no matter how much loyalty they offer him. His dream is to create a safe place where people can live in a comfortable society. He is kind to a fault, even when it hurts him, such as letting Carol go without a fight after Henry's death.

Abraham Ford (Candor)

Abraham is either a Dauntless-born transfer to Candor or a Candor-born transfer to Dauntless. He fits so well into both factions as a soldier who runs head-on into action and is unafraid to tell a villain to "suck it," but bold-faced openness is intrinsic to who he is as a person.

Abraham can't help but say exactly what he means, rude or crude, even if it gets him punched in the face. Overall, honesty is extremely important to him. He is so hurt and betrayed by Eugene's lie, that it nearly crumbles their close friendship.
