The CW has now ordered the pilot for the previously announced Walker prequel series. Walker is a remake of the original Chuck Norris series, Walker, Texas Ranger from 1993. The series follows Cordell Walker (Jared Padalecki), a widowed father, who returns home to reconnect with his family and navigate his new job and new partner. Walker is currently on its second season, which premiered in October.

According to The Wrap, a Walker prequel series pilot has been ordered by The CW. The project is currently titled, Walker: Independence and will be co-written by Anna Fricke and Seamus Fahey. The series will follow the origins of the Walker family in the 1800s and will center on Abby Walker, who flees to Independence, Texas after witnessing the death of her husband on their journey out West. She stumbles upon Hoyt Rawlins while attempting to seek revenge, and the two struggle to navigate the zany and diverse residents of the small Texas town where everyone seeks to escape their troubled pasts. Walker creator and producer, Anna Fricke, is set to produce the new series alongside Padalecki, who also produces the original series.

The CW appears to want to keep the Supernatural family around for a while as a pilot was just ordered for a Supernatural prequel series, The Winchesters, produced by Jenson Ackles and Daneel Ackles. With the massive success of the long-running series, it's likely the series will reach success and attract a solid audience. There is no word on casting for the new series or the timeline on when it will start production. In the meantime, Walker airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
