Warning! Spoilers ahead for CW’s Walker.

Walker reveals the poker chip mystery, but it doesn’t solve Emily Walker’s murder. The CW reboot of the ‘90s Walker, Texas Ranger opened with the tragic shooting of Emily (Genevieve Padalecki), Cordell Walker’s (Jared Padalecki) wife. She had gone to deliver food and water for incoming migrants on the border, following the usual trail laid out for her by her husband. However, she was unexpectedly gunned down by an unknown assailant and a poker chip was left on her abdomen, which was found shortly after by Walker. While the Texas ranger got an answer regarding why the poker chip was there, the circumstances surrounding Emily’s death have yet to be completely resolved.

Walker has become obsessed with figuring out why his wife was targeted and how someone managed to find her on her route, which was carefully mapped out by Walker so that Emily could avoid being caught. Yes, now that he was back in the saddle (literally and figuratively speaking), Walker had some more time to think about what could have happened to Emily. Who closed her eyes after she was shot? Who left the poker chip behind and was it a calling card? Geri Broussard (Odette Annable), Emily’s friend and local bartender, admitted to having closed her eyes when she found her. Check.

As for the poker chip, Walker’s son August revealed that Emily had bought him a poker set, chips and all, as a Father’s Day present, handing him the set so that he could finally set his mind at ease. However, something is still not right. A man named Carlos Mendoza is said to have confessed to Emily’s murder, but that honestly sounds like a setup. What was Carlos’ motive? Why would he chase down Emily and how did he even know she would be there? That is, if he is actually the killer, which might not be the case at all.

The poker set seems to give the audience an answer for the chip’s presence at the crime scene, but it doesn’t answer why only one of the chips made it out of the case. Wouldn’t the rest have spilled over everywhere? It’s awfully convenient for only one poker chip to have been left behind and it seems to have been done on purpose. Plus, Emily was running for her life and it’s doubtful that she would have thought to take the poker set with her. There is obviously still a lot left to unpack regarding Walker’s murder mystery.

With Emily’s death looking more and more deliberate, the series has already introduced a potential accomplice to the crime: Geri. She knew Emily’s route because she often took it with her and was probably there that night. Responsible for closing her eyes, why didn’t she reveal this tidbit to Walker beforehand? Her actions, and the fact that her backstory hasn’t been fully revealed, certainly paint her as a suspect. There’s also the case of Walker’s boss, Captain Larry James (Coby Bell). Though there isn’t much to know about him besides the fact he was Walker’s partner and knew Emily, it’s possible that he was involved somehow. For now, most everyone in Walker is a suspect and the poker chip reveal ultimately leads to more questions than answers.
