'Voyage of the Dawn Treader' International Trailer Offers More Thrills [Updated]

Chronicles of Narnia Voyage of the Dawn Treader movie international trailer

[UPDATE: A new foreign poster for Voyage of the Dawn Treader has emerged as well.]

Witness the next chapter in an epic fantasy series that will be packed with action and presented in digital 3D - no, not the seventh Harry Potter movie, we mean The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

An international trailer for Voyage of the Dawn Treader is online and it features both details about the film's plot and footage of CG dragons, animals, and witches all wreaking havoc.

Georgie Henley and Skandar Keynes are back to play Lucy and Edmund Pevensie, respectively, in the latest Narnia movie. Joining the Pevensies on their new quest is their less-than-pleasant cousin, Eustace Scrubb (played by Will Poulter), along with Ben Barnes as the titular hero of the second Narnia pic, Prince Caspian. Liam Neeson will once again voice the otherworldly lion, Aslan, while Simon Pegg will provide the vocals for the warrior mouse Reepicheep.

The 2nd U.S. trailer for Voyage of the Dawn Treader offered little insight into the story of the third Narnia movie - this international preview, by comparison, reveals that, well, the Pevensies' latest adventure is pretty much the same as before: save Narnia from encroaching forces of evil.

Parents looking for a more family-friendly fantasy feature to take their young ones to see during the holiday season might pass on Harry Potter 7 and check out the latest Narnia instead. Voyage of the Dawn Treader doesn't look to be any more violent or scary than its predecessors were.

Therein lies a problem for the film - unlike  the Harry Potter franchise or even the Twlight movies, the Chronicles of Narnia do not become steadily darker and more adult as the series progresses. Younger moviegoers that loved The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe back in 2005 have grown up a bit since then and might now have less interest in seeing a new Narnia film that feels very similar to that first, in terms of its story and even the quality of visual FX on display.

The novelty of 3D has not worn off completely yet, so the technology should help Voyage of the Dawn Treader on the financial side. Tron Legacy could draw away both 3D theaters and ticket buyers from the new Chronicles of Narnia, since both are big-budget, FX extravaganzas that look to appeal to the family crowd this December. We will have to wait and see what effect the two have on one another's returns at the box office.
