Attendees of this year's Comic-Con International will be treated to an early screening of the third season of Voltron: Legendary Defender's premiere episode. The upcoming installment of the series is scheduled to be available for streaming on Netflix starting August 4, 2017.

Debuting with a 10-episode outing in June 2016, Voltron: Legendary Defender has been able to build its own following with a mix of old fans of the original animated series coupled with new ones that were intrigued by the show's premise. Back in April, folks behind the hit revival announced that season 3 of the series is slated for this year despite the fact that the second season of Voltron has just aired back in January. Currently, the series has a 78-episode commitment from Netflix - 37 of which has already been produced, including the upcoming 13 scheduled for season 3.

In an article published by Anime News Network, DreamWorks Animation Television and Netflix announced last Friday that the first episode of Voltron season 3 will premiere at Comic-Con International on July 20 as part of their panel for the event. The viewing party will also be attended by show executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos, co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery, and voice actors Bex Taylor-Klaus (Pidge) and Tyler Labine (Hunk).

A special Voltron Cosplay and Fan Meetup is scheduled to take place at the same day where fans can convene dressed up as their favorite member of the Voltron Force. Meanwhile, a ticketed autograph session is penciled in on the following day, July 21.

Voltron Legendary Defender

Early last month, the first trailer for Voltron season 3 has been released introducing the series' newest villain, Prince Lotor. Following the Voltron Force and Blade Mamora's massive win against Emperor Zarkon and his troops, Lotor is summoned to take over the place of his heavily injured father. And from the looks it, the prince is very determined to seek revenge and continue Zarkon's mission to amass more power.

Unfortunately, Lotor is not even the most pressing matter that the Voltron Force is facing. It can be remembered that by the end of Voltron season 2, the win against the evil Empire came at a price with Shiro suddenly vanishing from the Black Lion with his bayard left behind. This leaves the team unable to form Voltron making them vulnerble if Lotor decides to suddenly strike.

Theories regarding what could have happened to the black Paladin and pilot of the Black Lion have been swirling online. But most fans are convinced that Shiro's disappearance will pave the way for Keith to take over as the new leader of the group which is the same narrative arc the the original animated series treaded. This also opens up another slot on the team inching fans on the possibility of seeing Princess Allura piloting a Lion herself in future Voltron: Legendary Defender episodes.

Voltron: Legendary Defender season 3 arrives on Netflix on August 4, 2017.
