Netflix is bringing its animated hit reboot of Voltron: Legendary Defender to a close in December, and the newest trailer for the final season teases an epic battle on the horizon. As it turns out, that battle will be waged with only all of existence hanging in the balance, as the new look at the series’ conclusion would like viewers to be aware of. That certainly raises the stakes for the animated series and for the streaming giant, as Voltron has helped fill a young-adult animated niche for the service since 2016, and though it will remain in the Netflix catalog for new viewers to discover, or for the occasional re-watch by fans, the lack of new content means the streamer will have a void to fill.
Since its premiere, the series has been on a staggeringly fast release schedule, one that will have seen it churn out over 70 episodes between June of 2016 and the December 2018 finale. The fact hat Voltron is also an animated series raises the degree of difficulty considerably, making the accomplishments of executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos and the show’s team of writers all the more impressive. While the series still has to pass muster with fans regarding its upcoming conclusion, it would seem that Voltron: Legendary Defender stands a good chance at living up to the “legendary” portion of its title.
The new trailer, released recently by Netflix, certainly does its job in terms of hyping the end of the series in epic fashion. In addition to hinting at the sort of battle awaiting the Paladins, the trailer also takes time to underscore just how important the individual story lines of Shiro, Keith, Lance, Pidge, and Hunk are, especially now that their respective arcs are set to reach some sort of conclusion. Check out the trailer below:
But what’s a trailer for an animated series about a giant warrior mech without some cool shots of said robot battling it out in space? Thankfully, the peek at the final season doesn’t skimp when it comes to showcasing the massive mech and what it can do. Moreover, as is mentioned when the trailer first begins, Voltron itself has become something more than just a tool for the pilots who control it; it’s now become a symbol for an entire universe.
That gives the series an interesting angle to play up when the final 13 episodes are available to stream midway through December. Given the series’ popularity over the course of its seven previous seasons, it’s a good bet Voltron’s final season will be worthy of a binge-watch.
Voltron: Legendary Defender season 8 will stream on Netflix beginning on Friday, December 14, 2018.
