As The Voice season 23 premiere quickly approaches, it has been announced that Reba McEntire will be joining as a Mega Mentor. When the singing competition show returns, the four coaches sitting in the big red chairs will be Chance the Rapper, Kelly Clarkson, Niall Horan, and Blake Shelton. The Voice has had many changes over the years, but fans keep tuning in each season to see the rotating coaches that come and go.

NBC revealed that Reba will be a Mega Mentor during The Voice season 23. The network released details about Reba’s plans to mentor the artists who make it through the Battle Rounds. She is introduced as a “multi-media entertainment mogul and Country Music Hall of Fame inductee” as she prepares to help the coaches guide their teams along. Reba has more than enough credentials to weigh in on the talent that comes through The Voice’s stage.

This won't be Reba’s first time on The Voice, though. She took part in the show's inaugural season back in 2011 as a Battle Advisor to Blake's team of artists. Her appearance comes full circle as this is Blake's farewell season of The Voice. Along with the announcement of Reba, NBC revealed that there will be a few changes to the format of The Voice itself. During the Battles, there will be a new “Playoff Pass” that will allow an artist to advance past the Knockout Rounds and get to the Playoffs. The coaches will each have one “Playoff Pass” and one “Steal” as well, which is eligible to be used on any artist that doesn’t win in the Battle Rounds.

Blake is the only remaining coach from The Voice season 1. He recently announced his plans to leave The Voice, making this his final season. The diverse cast of coaches is always something that draws viewers in, from pop sensation Kelly to Chance the Rapper and boy band superstar Niall. There are talks of who will be replacing Blake next season to keep the diversity of coaches intact. Over the years, many have graced the big red chairs that everyone wants to see turn around. There has been no shortage of talent, with names like Ariana Grande, Shakira, Pharrell Williams, Gwen Stefani, Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, and Nick Jonas all having been on board at some point over the last 22 seasons.

The Voice is returning in March. With the addition of Reba, this adds another country star into the mix, with both her and Blake having lots of country music fame. Their talents are balanced out by the other coaches. However, it will be interesting since it is both Chance and Niall’s first season competing on The Voice. While they may be fresh, this doesn’t always mean they are at a disadvantage. They also will receive some help from Reba eventually. Being able to utilize her skills and knowledge will surely be a great help. The Voice season 23 is shaping up to be exciting one, and fans will just have to wait to find out how it all turns out.

The Voice season 23 premieres March 6 at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
