The Voice coach Nick Jonas is expanding his reach on NBC by hosting the upcoming Billboard Music Awards. The boy band singer is taking the reins from fellow Voice coach Kelly Clarkson, who hosted the awards show for the past three years. He's no stranger to this particular event, as he won three awards in 2020 with the Jonas Brothers, including for their hit song "Sucker."

Nominations were recently announced for the Billboard Music Awards, with The Voice receiving recognition. Future Voice coach Ariana Grande is up for a few awards, as is former coach Adam Levine with his band Maroon 5. Season 8's Koryn Hawthorne is nominated in a few of the Gospel categories. And controversial season 6 alum Morgan Wallen, who got in a lot of trouble when a video surfaced of him using racial slurs, received six nominations. Dick Clark Productions, which produces the Billboard Music Awards, said he is only nominated because of his standing on the music charts, but he will not be appearing on the show.

According to Deadline, Jonas is hosting the Billboard Music Awards, which will take place on May 23 at 8pm on NBC, the same network that airs The Voice. After it was announced, Jonas posted a video on Twitter joking that he had preemptively won the non-existent "Best Host Ever" award. Various Twitter users replied to express their excitement at Jonas' hosting news, while Clarkson's fans are disappointed. You can see some of the comments below:

Fans are clearly excited that The Voice's Jonas is hosting the Billboard Music Awards. But Clarkson's fans have expressed their disappointment that the American Idol winner is not returning after hosting for the past three years. One fan wants her to at least perform if she's not going to host. Some consider this a let-down.

Since Clarkson has experience hosting not just giant award shows but also her own talk show, she can certainly give Jonas some advice for the Billboard Music Awards. Having said that, it's not like Jonas has never hosted one of these events before. He emceed the Kids' Choice Awards back in 2015. And he, along with his brothers, has a ton of experience appearing on TV, including being a coach on The Voice.

Speaking of which, after his big night at the Billboard Music Awards, Jonas will have to head back to The Voice the next day to take part in the two-part season 20 finale. Leading up to that, NBC is airing a recap episode this coming Monday, for some reason. The live shows will then begin on May 10 and last for only three weeks. In that short amount of time, viewers will have to narrow the field from 17 all the way down to the finalists competing for the title.

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
