The Voice coach Blake Shelton revealed that he had to have some "awkward conversations" with friends who weren't invited to his wedding, telling them to "get over it."  The country music singer got married to his fellow Voice coach and pop singer Gwen Stefani in a small wedding on July 3, one day before Independence Day. Just days earlier, speculation began to build over an imminent wedding when it was reported that the couple had applied for a marriage license, which was valid for only 10 days. A couple weeks later, Stefani said in an interview that their wedding "was literally one of the greatest moments of my life."

Shelton and Stefani met on the set of The Voice when the latter joined as a season 7 coach in 2014. But they didn't start dating until the "Hollaback Girl" singer returned for her second stint as a coach a year later. Shelton popped the question in the fall of 2020. Their wedding over the summer holiday weekend took place on Shelton's ranch in Oklahoma. He had a small chapel built on the property for the special occasion. The couple kept the attendees to a minimum, and The Voice host Carson Daly officiated the ceremony.

Since Shelton and Stefani didn't invite many people to their wedding, that meant some of their friends were snubbed. During an interview on SiriusXM's The Highway, Shelton revealed that things got awkward between him and his friends. But he straight-up told them to "get over it." As he explained, "I've had awkward conversations with so many of my friends. 'Oh, oh, yeah. I read about that. How was that?' Listen, we kept it small. Get over it. It's not about you. So there's a lot of them."

The newlyweds from The Voice decided not to go on a honeymoon, instead choosing to relax at home as well as fulfill some work commitments. "We just wanted something calm for a minute and not to run off and go do something else," Shelton admitted. Stefani has grown a passion for the agriculture, especially flowers, in Oklahoma. In the spring, they planted acres of flowers on their ranch, which have bloomed all over. And as Shelton added, "She wouldn't have wanted to leave [for a honeymoon] anyway because she can just literally walk out there and stand in acres of those things."

It's understandable that Shelton's friends would be put off by not receiving invitations to his wedding, especially if they're close friends. At the same time, there is a global pandemic still going on, and if Shelton and Stefani didn't want a big wedding, that's ultimately their call. It's their big day, so they should be able to make these decisions without feeling pressure from others. When Shelton quoted a friend as saying they "read about" the wedding, it may lead fans to wonder if he even told them the wedding was actually happening at all or if he wanted to surprise everyone. Considering how easy it can be for big news like this to leak, maybe it's for the best that The Voice coach kept a tight lid on the details.
