Ariana Grande recently revealed that she has broken some of the rules in her contract for The Voice season 21. The singer recently made her debut as one of the coaches in the competition, but in the short amount of time she has been on the show, she has already proven to be somewhat of a dangerous woman. However, to co-workers, friends and contestants, Ariana has been kind in ways the show may never have seen before.

In March of 2020, it was announced that Ariana would be the latest addition to The Voice. In the past, fans have seen tremendous vocal talents such as Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys and Gwen Stefani in the show’s big red chairs. Ariana is sitting alongside Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Blake Shelton, who has been a coach since The Voice first aired in April of 2011.

Ariana recently appeared on Kelly Clarkson’s daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, where the two discussed The Voice, fellow coaches and those who are competing. Ariana shared that she's excited to work with the artists on the show and has a lot of love for them. The newest coach said she has so much love for the artists on her team--so much, in fact, she has been willing to violate the terms of her contract in order to contact them. “I’ve broken every rule in my contract. I talk to them all the time. I'm DMing them,” Ariana explained. Despite producers advising against the activity, Ariana didn't seem to be overly concerned at the possibility of killing her contract with kindness. “They’re like, 'You’re not supposed to do that.’ And I’m like, ‘Sorry,' she told Kelly. Kelly has spoken highly of Ariana before and does so again, confirming that Ariana is consistently kind behind the scenes. Kelly added that she knew Ariana was “talented and “would be a great coach” but learned backstage on The Voice that she is also “so funny, very quick-witted” and that she hopes audiences will see that.

While all of the coaches on this season of The Voice maintain that Ariana is a talented artist, each of them voiced their concern that the size of Ariana’s fan base may spell trouble for their team’s success on the show. Kelly admitted that while she has been confident in her ability to beat Blake and John, the same does not go for Ariana, adding that when Ariana arrived on the show, “it was apparent. Literally, the entire audience was screaming. I was like, ‘We have no chance.’” Despite cheers from the audience and claims that Blake and John are frightened by her ability to win, Ariana didn't think it’s true that there is no chance for her competitors. “I really don’t think that I have the chance that you think I have,” she said. Ariana shared that just the opportunity to get to know contestants is “really special” and that she thinks audiences will “fall in love with them.

The Voice has seen many phenomenal singers coach over the last decade, and Ariana Grande may be one of the show’s fiercest competitors for all the ways audiences may expect. However, she has some advantages audiences may be surprised by. Despite her advantages, Ariana has been incredibly humble about her experience on the show both in the past and with Kelly. Ariana’s chances at winning the singing competition come not just from her vocal talent but also her clear ability to connect with others, which she has shown even in circumstances that a contract may not allow for.

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
