Marvel's hired Captain Marvel and Black Widow scribe Jac Schaeffer to write and produce The Vision and Scarlet Witch series for Disney's upcoming streaming service. Marvel Studios is looking toward the small screen and streaming to highlight some of the MCU's more underserved characters. Disney has only confirmed that Tom Hiddleston's Loki will get a series of his own, but they reportedly have several other ideas in the works.
One of these projects is Vision and Scarlet Witch, which will see Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen reprise their MCU roles in a new way. Although originally believed to be a solo series for Olsen, it was later reported that Vision would also appear. The last time fans saw the two characters though, Vision was getting the Mind Stone ripped from his head by Thanos and Wanda Maximoff was fading to dust over his lifeless, android body. Both characters will presumably be brought back to life during Avengers: Endgame and have the ability for additional stories to be told.
According to THR, Marvel Studios has found their showrunner for the live-action Vision and Scarlet Witch series. They've reportedly hired Jac Schaeffer to write the pilot and produce the show for them. This move comes after Schaeffer got her foot in the door with the MCU by quietly working on Captain Marvel's script, and then was hired to write Black Widow. There's currently no information on the plot of the proposed series or when fans can expect it to debut on Disney Plus.
The hiring of Schaeffer is not only a big step forward for the series, but continues to show how she's impressed Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios. She's quickly becoming a favorite writer of theirs, and now she'll get to have an even bigger role on her next project. Between her work on the three MCU projects, Schaeffer will have a hand in crafting stories for Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, and Olsen's Scarlet Witch - three of the MCU's biggest female heroes.
Now that this series has a showrunner behind it, fans will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on how the series develops. Disney's streaming service is set to launch at some point later this year, and the hiring of Schaeffer right now could give it a shot to be the first live-action MCU series to debut. Even though the Loki series has been confirmed, no showrunner has yet been named for it. Meanwhile, the Falcon and Winter Soldier series is in the same position as The Vision and Scarlet Witch of having a writer onboard in Malcolm Spellman, but also hasn't been confirmed by Disney.
