Daredevil actor Vincent D'Onofrio wants to play Lex Luthor in a future DC project. D'Onofrio is most known for playing the crime boss named Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, in the massively popular Netflix superhero show. Kingpin was the main antagonist for the first and third seasons of the series, and had brief appearances in season 2.
Even though D'Onofrio may currently be recognized as Fisk, he actually has been acting since the '80s, beginning his career with the comedy film The First Turn-On!!. Throughout his career, the actor has snagged roles in some big projects such as Full Metal Jacket, Ed Wood, and Men in Black. He also appeared in Jurassic World as the character Hoskins, before being eaten alive by a velociraptor. The actor has had a wide range of acting roles, but D'Onofrio now wants to play another supervillain; this time for DC.
D'Onofrio made the comment about playing Lex Luthor after he replied to a fan's question on Twitter. When a fan asked him what other character he would want to play on Daredevil, D'Onofrio replied, "I wouldn't. I'd jump over to DC and play Lex". The actor also revealed last year that he would appear in the DCEU if he was offered a role, when he congratulated Patty Jenkins on Wonder Woman's success.
I wouldn't. I'd jump over to DC and play Lex https://t.co/fQHJ05ycx3— Vincent D'Onofrio (@vincentdonofrio) November 12, 2018
UPDATE: D'Onofrio has taken down his initial tweet, explaining his reasoning on Twitter:
I took down my Lex tweet becuz some folks go overboard. Which is fun. But out of context. Which is also fun I guess. Much like this tweet.— Vincent D'Onofrio (@vincentdonofrio) November 13, 2018
It looks like Netflix superhero characters won't be in the MCU anytime soon, but D'Onofrio has kept an open-mind about potentially appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. D'Onofrio has shown interest in playing Kingpin in a future MCU Spider-Man movie and even wanted to appear as a crazy character in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 before James Gunn left the project. Back in 2016, the actor was even interested in making a Kingpin spinoff show with Netflix. With all of that in mind, given the state of the DCEU, D'Onofrio as Lex Luthor does cause some problems.
Even though D'Onofrio has shown interest in the character, he probably won't be getting the role anytime soon since Jesse Eisenberg is playing Lex Luthor in the DC film universe. That being said, D'Onofrio would be perfect in the supervillain role. He did wonders as Kingpin in Daredevil, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to imagine him as another bald supervillain. Also, reports surfaced a few months ago that Warner Bros. was looking to "reset" the DC Extended Universe, after multiple financial disappointments. If Warner Bros. should reboot the DC characters again, they will now know just who to call for the role of Lex Luthor.
